People are fundamentally savage, so war and death are inevitable. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding, the author of this book, portrays savagery throughout the story. He indirectly proves his point that all human beings are primitive by nature environment. One of his point is shown when the boys assumes that there is a beast on the island. They have mistaken the dead parachutist which was hanging on the edge of the tree branch as a monster and believes it’s still on the isle with them. Everyone believes it was a beast that they saw, except Simon. As Simon disagrees with their belief, Simon quickly states his way of thinking. “What i mean is . . . maybe it’s only us” (Golding 77).
