1. Trolling is simply fishing for salmon from a slow-moving boat. Special trolling motors are available to move the boat gradually along through the water at speeds that will not scare off the salmon. Many use this method in tidewaters.
2. Drift fishing is similar to trolling except a motor is only used on occasion. Fishing in this way is best for those areas where there is a heavy concentration of salmon in one place. There are three main methods of casting that anglers use in this type of fishing, such as the following:
• Mooching uses a lightweight curved weight that allows the hooked, plug-cut herring to travel deep enough to reach the salmon. The herring spins in the water to attract the salmon.
• Jigging is a method in which anglers use a lead jig that is shaped like a fish. The jig moves down and up with a sweep of the

A bounty was created for catching the pike minnows, creating additional funds that must be spent in order to encourage the salmon to survive. Fish transportation was also implemented to move the salmon 130 miles upstream past the dams.
The fish is modified to carry a growth hormone gene from the Pacific chinook salmon and DNA from the eel-like ocean pout. This allows the salmon to grow faster as the hormone is kept active all the time.
Since three-forth of the world is composed of bodies of water, it’s natural that a great number of people rely on fishing for their livelyhood or just for their recreation needs. There are numerous of fish species swimming under the lakes, seas, ponds, and rivers. Most anglers consider fishing as the delight in their purpose-driven life, a sport, as they say.
Some of the motor skills needed are coordination, stabilization, gripping and transporting. You need to be able to grip the bait in your hands while putting it on the rod, as well as grip the fishing pole once you have cast your bait into the water. Stabilization is also important. My family fishes on a solid dock, but some people fish on floating docks or on boats which makes keeping your balance essential for this activity. Transportation is an important motor skill when fishing. While fishing you have to be able to transport your bait from the bait bucket onto the hook, then you have to transport the hook and line from the top of the reel into the water, and then once you catch a fish you have to transport the fish off the hook and either back into the water or into storage. Even though there are many different processing skills to fishing I believe that coordination is the most important skill of fishing. While fishing you have to hold the rod in one hand, and turn the handle of the reel with the other all while maintaining your balance. You are constantly faced with completing multiple tasks a once, and coordination will help keep the activity running
Since the early 1800's, Native Americans fished the spring and fall salmon runs, the water's edge, and the shore of the Columbia River. Later, small cable cars built by fish buyers linked the shore to the islands. They used two types of dip nets: one was stationary, the other movable through the water. The dip nets attached to poles ranged from 15 to 25 feet in length. There were about 480 fishing stations around Celilo Falls. Fishers built wooden platforms out over the water catching salmon that weighed up to sixty pounds. The wood platforms were very wet and slippery so the men had to be really strong. The men tied themselves with ropes that they tied around their waists in the event that they fell in the river.
People used a lot of different methods to catch fish. Different people use different methods and believe that their method is the best or is the most ethical. Commercial fisherman and the native methods both have their similarities and their differences. Both have been effective. Native Americans for the most part used homemade tools from the resources that they had around them. Flint, bone and wood were some of the natural resources used by Native Americans for their equiptment (Primitive Fishing Tackle). Tools like spears, hooks and gaffs, nets, and weirs were all used by Native Americans for nothing more than catching fish and maybe some other aquatic life. The hooks and gaffs were generally carved from bone. A gaff is bigger than a hook, but gets lodged in the fish once it takes the bait on it. Spears were nothing more than a wooden shaft with a sharp tip (Nickson). The tips were generally carved from bone, flint, and sometimes metal. Generation after generation gathered food off the land, people are continuing to practice this in our modern world today. Societies expressly continue to gather their own food as it provides an inexpensive, delightful tasting meal. One of the techniques of our historical past that is still in use today, that has been used for generation after generation is “netting” fish. Netting is a classic technique that has not faced as many revisions to its practice. It persists from one generation to the next due to the fact, that many do not understand it to be harmful to the environment; others may enjoy the idea of letting commercial fisheries catch large numbers of fish as it continues to keep some of Americans favorite meals low cost. Devastating fall out from neglectful thinking about netting will occur in the future if preservative action toward this way of life is not taken. Minimizing the use of nets in waterways will ensure salmon and other fish survive for many more generations to come, allowing this plentiful food source given to us by Mother Nature to be exploited and enjoyed by our future kin. With food sources now readily available, fishing with nets should be reevaluated as follows; who is allowed to fish with nets, what are their purposes, and how will this effect tributary fishing populations.
There is one species of Atlantic salmon and five species of Pacific. Atlantic salmon account for almost 95 percent of the farmed salmon produced, and most of them are farm-raised on the pacific coast. Pacific species account for all of the wild salmon caught in the Americas and some of them are also farm-raised. No wild Atlantic salmon are fished commercially in North America, as they are an endangered species.
