The play Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is about a forsaken love between two fighting families. Romeo and Juliet’s love is forbidden, yet both of them refuse to stay away from one another. Romeo being a Montague and Juliet being a Capulet ignites the fire to begin the fight of the century. Being the lovers they believe to be, Romeo and Juliet are willing to do whatever it takes to be together. Lives are lost due to the hatred between families, Romeo’s best friend dies along with Juliet’s cousin in the street fight that gets Romeo banished from Verona. All while doing this they only fall for each others outward appearance, therefore they do not share true love. Romeo and Juliet have only known each other for a short period of time, yet they believe they are in love. Juliet says, “My ears have not yet drunk a hundred words”(Shakespeare 2.2.58) showing that they are not but in lust with each other. All they have is a passionate desire for the physical parts of love therefore they are not in love. Romeo thinks he has found true love in Juliet. Romeo is wrong, true love is when someone would wait for eternity just to be with another, and when beauty is not all that matters. Romeo even says ”O, wilt thou leave me so unsatisfied?” (Shakespeare 2.2.125) when Juliet would not physically embrace him. This proves that all Romeo wants is a kiss, he is simply not okay with just being in her presence. Juliet on the other hand seconds later confessed her love for him time and time again, this shows they are not clearly set on their feelings towards one another.
