The story of Romeo and Juliet is a great play with a very tragic and unfortunate ending. The two main characters, Romeo and Juliet, commit suicide and no one tries to stop or help them. Throughout the play they were trying to figure out ways to be together and they had help from two people, Friar Lawrence and the Nurse. Both of them were just trying to make them happy. Sometimes trying to make someone happy can backfire and the situation can get worse. This is exactly what happens in Romeo and Juliet when the two main character kill themselves at the end of the play. Friar Lawrence and the Nurse are responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death.

Romeo goes to him asking for advice. “Sojourn in Mantua. I’ll find out your man, and he shall signify from time to time every good hap to you that chances here” (Shakespeare 168). He tells Romeo to go to Mantua and that he will figure out a plan for him. Romeo leaving and going to Mantua is one of the reasons he kills himself because he does not what is going on back in Verona. Friar Lawrence also has a plan for Juliet. “Take thou this vial, being then in bed, and this distilling liquor drink thou off” (Shakespeare 196). He gives her a potion that will make her look dead. The timing gets messed up and it leads Romeo to thinking she is actually dead and because he thinks that he wants to kill himself. “ I could not send it - here it is again - nor get a messenger to bring it thee” (Shakespeare 232). He asks Friar John to bring Romeo the letter but no one is allowed to leave Verona so he had no way of getting in touch with Romeo. He finds out from someone else that Juliet has “died” and goes to see her. Romeo ends up killing Paris so he could get into the vault and then kills himself. “To lie discoloured by this place of peace? Romeo! O, pale! Who else? What, Paris too?” (Shakespeare 244). Friar Lawrence sees Romeo and Paris dead in the vault and instead of telling Juliet when she wakes up he leaves.
