Imagine the view from atop Mt. Everest. You can see the many snow-capped, rugged mountain peaks, and nothing but a clear blue sky. You can see for miles all around you. What an extraordinary experience! You might ask yourself, how did I get all the way up here? The answer: rock climbing. Rock climbing is a strenuous physical activity that can enhance your feeling of accomplishment. It has many health benefits, and also an exciting adventuresome sport that once you are introduced to it, you’re hooked. One of the first requirements is to first understand the concept of rock climbing and having adequate and proper equipment. Second, adequate training is a must. Once the concepts are understood, it is important to locate the best places to climb. After all of these preparations, it’s time to climb.
In any given situation with rock climbing being prepared with the proper equipment is a must. There are many things required for rock climbing according to Steven Edwards author of Rock Climbing equipment and techniques. “Although it is possible to rock climb without equipment, it is difficult to do so safely.” Equipment suggested for safely rock climbing include: shoes, helmet, harnesses, rope, carabineers, webbing, and belay device.
“The most useful piece of climbing equipment is a pair of climbing shoes. The modern climbing shoe has a stiff, smooth rubber sole that protects the foot from sharp, rough rock, and provides more friction than a bare foot.” Your feet affect every single part of your body. The rock climbing world is every climbers dream to experience. Once the climber has the adequate equipment and has properly trained himself, finding a place to climb is limitless. Rock climbing provides a healthy benefit to the body. But most of all the thrill of climbing and the satisfaction of the accomplishment increases personal self-esteem. The climber experiences many challenges and sees the world like no other person sees the world. One step at a time, a rock climber can gain that extraordinary experience of those majestic mountain peaks from atop Mt. Everest. Climb On!
