How did Rock and Roll influence the culture? Rock and Roll is more than just a genre of music, it was a movement it pushed the social norms of the 50's. It's fast beats, relatable lyrics targeted young adults of this time period. Rock and Roll was everything a typical suburban house was not. While the parents of the decade were still listening to Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, the kids were listening to The King of rock and roll, Elvis Presley. His provocative dancing and wild attitude got kids and teenagers excited, yet it made the parents cringe. Elvis Presley inspired so many other artists to sing rock and roll with his different style. With songs like Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones, Dream On AeroSmith all these songs were iconic. Rock and Roll changed the culture of society, it went from something proper to some with meaning, this genre of music influenced so many band today, it has inspired so many artist to have that risky look, risky lyrics, and sounds. Heavy metal rock which continued the hallucinogenic approach, but using loud volume, electronic distortion, and vulgar stage antics bands that’s included these iconic acts were Kiss, Alice Cooper, and Led Zeppelin. With all the different genres of music, heavy metal, screamo, dubstep, punk rock. Rock and roll influenced them, bands like the Talking Heads, influenced bands today like The 1975 a popular alternative rock band. All through the 60’s 70’s and 80’s, rock and roll created a movement into modern day music, bands were creating a label for years to come, bands like Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC, Guns and Roses, Queen, Journey and many more are still known by this generation. The teenagers of this era grew up listening to their parents music, knowing all the famous songs from artist of the 70’s.
