The Roaring Twenties is the period from 1920 to 1929 which took place between World War I and the start of the Great Depression. This time period is called the Roaring Twenties because of the many political, economic and social changes that occurred. The Roaring Twenties introduced the birth of a new modern lifestyle. “War-weary Americans wanted to enjoy themselves and began to value convenience and leisure over hard work and self-denial.” (Roaring Twenties, n.d.) The video clip I viewed as the primary document source, was cheerful and upbeat. If one did not do their research on the Roaring Twenties then they would believe that the following statement is true, “We have left the Gilded Age behind, we have won "The Great War to End All Wars" and the celebration is in full swing. The Model T automobile, made by Henry Ford, was very popular in the 1920s. “The effects of the automobile industry were huge and led to the building of new roads and highways, service stations, expressways, garages and motels during the Roaring Twenties.” (Roaring Twenties, n.d.) Another positive is electricity. Electricity lit up towns and cities and provided access to the new power required appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, vacuum machines, radios, and electric razors and irons. There were many new inventions during the Roaring Twenties that made American lives simpler. Entertainment offered Americans many ways to make their leisure time exciting. These exciting new ways to spend your free time include listening to the radio, going to the movie theatre, and sports stadiums. Another huge positive is music and dance. The Roaring Twenties was known as the Jazz Age. An example of this type of music and dance is Cab Calloway and the Nicholas Brothers, which were the acts that performed in the primary source
