The highest grossing picture domestically in 1007 was Spider-Man 3. After the success of Spider-Man ($821,708,551 - Worldwide) and Spider-Man 2 ($783,766,341 - Worldwide), Sony Pictures greenlit Spider-Man 3, a tentpole movie for the studio. Due to its predecessors, Spider-Man 3 had both a presold ticket sales and audience awareness. Sony was guaranteed a high ticket sale turnout for the film not because the film was a highly anticipated sequel, but also based off a popular comic book. Comic book superheroes also come with a fan based, and Spider-Man in particular has always has a huge following. Due to complex issues, (eg. Peter doesn’t listen) Mary Jane does not feel the same way, and they eventually break up. Towards the end of the film, Mary Jane is used as bait to leer Spider-Man to the final action sequence. Lastly, to top the plotline off, Peter is dealing with the strange alien goop that has infected his Spider-Man suit, known as “Symbiote.” Symbiote is addicting because it makes Peter feel strong and powerful. Unfortunately, it leads to negative thoughts and aggressive behavior as well. Peter must find a way to detach himself from Symbiote, and break his addiction. Unfortunately, when it comes time to detach himself from Symbiote, Peter mistakenly attaches it to his rival photographer from the Daily Bugle, Eddie Brock (Topher Grace). Symbiote fastens directly to Eddie skin, turning him into a fan-favorite Spider-Man villain, “Venom.” Peter must stop not one, but three villains in Spider-Man 3, on top of coming to terms with his uncle’s death, his failing romance, and threats towards the love of his life.
