Reiki Jin Kei Do (RJKD) is the name given to the lineage, (the frame), which con- tains a method of practice that although distinctly Buddhist in feel, is, like all Reiki methods, available to all, and transcends narrow boundaries of religiosity or philosophy. I have taught this system of Reiki to people of many faiths in the UK and in Egypt, and found that, with the exception of those few who hold rather ex- treme views in relation to their religious calling, all find the teachings easily acces- sible and immensely rewarding through adding another dimension to their lives and thus a deeper commitment to their own core spiritual values. In this book I intend to explore the philosophy behind Reiki – the teachings of RJKD. You will not …show more content…
RJKD also contains the teachings of the older Buddhist system of which Reiki is a simplified form. This is now known as Buddho-EnerSense. This spiritual method parallels many fundamentals of the widely known Reiki system, including infor- mation relating to the Reiki symbols. Buddho-EnerSense is taught in four levels, and deals in depth with the historical origins of many aspects of the Reiki system and provides a profound set of teachings and disciplines that allows the student to more fully explore their own spiritual development within the framework of the sys- tem, though as with Reiki, there is no need for the student to subscribe to Bud- dhism as a belief to fully engage with the material of Buddho-EnerSense. Buddho- EnerSense however will not be covered within the pages of this book. The system, in all of its complexity and depth, would require a book of its own, and as such this is a project for another time. I have therefore restricted this present work to

“The Three Reikis” (http://www.freeyellow.com/members/Reiki/page2.html) explains that about five years ago distinctions for three forms of Reiki were recognized. The three forms are Usui Reiki, Vajra Reiki, and Karuna Reiki. Usui Reiki is the traditional form of Reiki rediscovered by Dr. Usui. Usui Reiki is noted for being a very gentle therapy, and therefore appropriate for adults and children seeking to maintain their good health, for providing energy to those who are lacking it due to illness or treatment, and also for the elderly. During Usui Reiki, the Practitioner’s Hand Positions are centered mainly on the head or torso. Although most Practitioners are satisfied with Usui Reiki Ability, those who are interested in a wider range of Healing Energy (i.e. caregivers of the extremely ill) would be more interested in Vajra R...

Buddhism is currently the fourth most popular religion in our society today, following Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. Its major ideologies are based on the philosophies of Siddhartha Guatama, also known as “Buddha”, who began his teachings in 598 BCE at the age of 35, according to Buddhist texts. A Buddhist’s foremost aspiration is the obtainment of Bodhi, or enlightenment through meditation and Anapana-sati (awareness of the breath). Buddhism shares many ideologies with India’s Hinduism and Yoga such as non-harming, non-violence, and self-awareness. In many instances, people regard Buddhism as a way of life rather than a religion, for it has no clear belief in the idea of a God or Gods. Its structure is built upon a hierarchy much like Christianity where superior orders such as Lamas or the Dalai Lama are said to be chosen by nature through the process of reincarnation rather than by a council like Christianity’s Pope. Though these “higher level” Buddhists are rare (not everyone is a reincarnation of an ancient Buddhist “priest”), all are permitted to follow “The Middle Way” either as a Buddhist monk or the simple attendance of a weekly teaching session from time to time. Throughout the last few hundred years the Buddhist population has blossomed into a healthy 381,611,000 and over fifteen different sects including Zen, Mahayana, and Theravada.
Reflexology is an ancient method of healing that originated in Egypt and the Orient. More than four thousand years ago, man discovered this treatment for imbalance, and recorded their discovery in drawings on cave walls. It is suggested that reflexology evolved from acupuncture and acupressure. Reflexology flourished in the United Kingdom in the nineteenth century, but did not appear in the United States until the early 1900's (http://lagunabeachca.com/reflexol.htm).

This course has helped to improve my understanding of Buddhism and Buddhist precepts. It has also showed me better ways to live my life and that Buddhism can be acutely studied under the pretenses of scientific means. Buddhism and Buddhist meditation is scientifically proven to be psychologically changing and meaningful.
230). There are two main “types” Buddhism that are practiced around the world. The first is Theravadin, and the second is Mahayana (Smith-Stoner, 2005, p. 228). Buddhism contains a “message of salvation” that considered the “Four Noble Truths” (Leming & Dickinson, 2011 p. 134). They are, the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering. Leming and Dickinson (2011) describe how the combination of ethics and meditation are the eightfold path to enlightenment (Leming & Dickinson, 2011 p. 136). The author believes it is important for practitioners to recognize the increasing numbers of people practicing Buddhism in the United States in order to enhance their ability to care for end of life needs in this population. Smith-Stoner (2005) states that Buddhism is one of the fastest growing religions in the United States and that Colorado is one of the main population centers (Smith-Stoner, 2005, p. 229). In Buddhism, it is extremely important to be able to tame emotions and the mind which is done through meditation. The author thinks it is pertinent to know the

Some of the complementary therapies do have very valid benefits and it seemed as if it was a very open area of research. From a personal point of view, doctors had an interest in yoga and the scientific opportunity was a major par...
