“It takes a great deal of courage to stand alone, even if you believe in something very strongly.” How would you feel if your life was in the hands of one stranger without any principles and beliefs? It would be much fairer if you had 12 different people with different principles and beliefs. Reginald Rose’s “12 Angry Men” proves that it is extremely important for every person to stand up their principles and beliefs even if they are the minority. The play is about 12 men who are part of a jury to decide the fate of a 19-year-old boy being accused of murdering his father. There are many examples of why you should stand up for your principles and what you believe in. Some of these examples include providing informative information to others, standing up for your beliefs and not backing down and making people believe you are confident about your beliefs and that they are correct
Firstly, voicing your principles and beliefs can help make decisions. If everyone expresses their own personal beliefs, then their different views may help provide more informative information to others to help in a decision. If you want people to accept beliefs, then you will need to stand up for them and prove that they are correct. In the script, NO.8 stands up for his beliefs that they should talk about the case before sending the boy off to die, and doesn’t back down the entire way. This is shown in the line said by NO.8 “It's not so easy for me to raise my hand and send a boy off to die without talking about it first.” He keeps his stance about his belief the entire way through the script.
