From a historical perspective, the recovery oriented approach is a new approach in the mental health setting, and in Australia, the ‘National framework for recovery-oriented mental health services’ was only endorsed by the Australian Health Ministers in 2013 (Department of Health, 2014). This document provides guidance to mental health practitioners to respond appropriately and effectively to the diversity of individuals with mental health issues, as well as describing key capabilities and practice approaches for a recovery oriented approach in the mental health setting.
