Recommended: Characters of Mark Twain‘s writing

In the story Recitatif the two main characters are people that are vastly different, but somehow very similar at the same time. The story is written in a way that shows two whole lives through the space of just a few pages, which is slightly hard to keep up with as far as reading, but detailed enough keep the timeline straight. The two main characters are Twyla and Roberta, one black the other white experience a few defining life moments together which changes them both differently. Twyla the white woman and the narrator of the story accounts the times through her perspective.
