An old proverb states “laughter is the best medicine”. After Randall McMurphy arrives into the hospital, most of the men start to laugh for the first time in many years. The more time McMurphey spends there, the men that are starting to laugh multiplies. They find the littlest things to put a smile on their face, but no one can take this away from them. All though there are many funny scenes, one scene that sticks out the most to me is when they play the basketball game. There are multiple parts of this scene that make everyone laugh but the funniest would have to be when Chief Bromden walks back and forth on the court. When he gets to the opponent's side, someone will pass the ball to him and he reaches into the basket and puts the ball in. When he gets to his side, he puts his hand at the bottom of the basket and pushes the ball out. When he does this, it puts a smile on everyone's face because it causes them to take the lead. I think that the director was trying to show that even mentally ill people can still have lots of fun playing with others. …show more content…

An old man is trying to stop them and asks who they are. McMurphey introduces everyone as Doctor. Everyone ends up with a smile on their face because for once they aren't seen as mentally ill, but a doctor from a psychiatric hospital. I think the purpose of this scene is to show that you can not make a first impression of people and just assume things about them. Since the guy doesn't know that they are patients at the hospital, they look like doctors to him. This is a very strong scene and shows that even tho they are mentally ill, they do not look like
