When reading the Alchemist, there are many lessons inlaid into the book. They teach about life and how to live life to the fullest. About making the right decisions and about taking action. But out of the ten main messages that are inside of the book, I strongly feel that one sticks out. That is to embrace the present. The Alchemist provides ample amounts examples for this particular lesson. On top of that, I can relate this idea quite well. Going back to the book, there are many instances that related to embracing the present. For example, the camel driver once said "I don't live in either my past or my future. I'm interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you'll be a happy man... Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we're living right now." This quote occurs when Santiago is in the middle of Sahara desert. “Everything is written in the Soul of the World, and there it will stay forever.” I get the impression that this is referring to that the past is permanent. That no matter what you do, you can’t change the past. In the book, this takes place when Santiago is focused on his woman, who he had to leave behind. Fatima, his lady, is a woman of the desert as she had stated before, understood that he had to leave. Fatima understands this because Santiago, like many other men, has their own personal journey to accomplish. And if they don’t go for it, they will live their life regret. So Fatima understands and will be waiting for his return. Santiago still misses her dearly and has not grasped this concept himself. The Alchemist provides these words to help comfort
