Recommended: Youth and national development

It was a couple week after my 14th birthday when Obama became president. As a young, and adventurous person, I was not into politics. The only idea I had on politics was that everyone is just a figure-head of some sort. So I thought the same with Obama. He does not really do much. He is just a symbol. It does not really matter. However, over the last 9 years I realized that by watching him serve as a leader, I was completely incorrect. Not that he wasn't a figure-head or that his occupation is not completely culture based, but that it genuinely does not matter. It does matter. A symbol matters.
