Animal testing is the act of conducting experiments using non-human animals to control variables in investigations. The variables may affect biological systems or behaviors in experiments. It is research done to test drugs, medicine, cosmetics, food additives and pesticides for the benefit of humanity.
Every year, up to 100 million animals may be experimented on for animal research. Animals range from mice to chimpanzees, but most frequently used are guinea pigs, hamsters, amphibians, fish, rats and mice.
