Princess Diana: A Philanthropist of Her Time
As Princess Diana once pronounced, “’Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you’” (“Diana Quotes”). This statement is not only a cry for assistance and action, but a motto of Diana’s life overall. She was a humanitarian and a very tender-hearted person. She yearned to help others with no compensation whatsoever. Because of her endeavors, she is remembered as a gift to today’s society. Princess Diana benefitted modern society by raising awareness about the outbreak of HIV and AIDS, dedicating her time to the sick and dying, and promoting charities and issues around the world.

Princess Diana went overseas to visit the sick and dying in places such as Angola, Australia, Egypt, Bosnia, India, and Pakistan (“Princess Humanitarian”). Her visits were far from home and quite often displayed that she truly was dedicated to her humanitarian work all around the world. Princess Diana demonstrated her weekly visits to hospitals saying, “’I make trips at least three times and week, and spend up to four hours at a time with patients holding their hands and talking to them’” (“Princess Humanitarian”). In her home of London, she spent most of her days sympathizing with the hospital patients. Any patient she encountered was truly receiving a gift. They would be overwhelmed by her presence and hope she brought to their failing lives. She was an extremely strong woman who stood up for what she believed was right, even when not easy. In 1196 Diana and Prince Charles divorced, a mutual agreement on both sides; “The two became estranged over the years, and there were reports of infidelities from both parties” (“Princess”). Some women would have felt so blessed to experience this amazing new world where they are treated like a princess and decide to continue on, but Diana was different.Instead of enduring the rest of her life in a marriage she was not involved in, Diana decided to show great strength and divorce Charles. However Diana was still involved in her children's life, and still continued to take part in her charity work, she even began dating an Egyptian film producer named Dodi Fayed. Though she was no longer a princess, everyday she still continued to show her everlasting heroism. All through Princess Diana’s life she showed many qualities of an epic hero. Diana and her aristocratic childhood is a great example of a noble birth, at a young age she played and later married the future king of England. Although not every patient is easy to deal with and doctors are under colossal pressure, by inspiring students with a possible future in the medical field to get involved with type of community service early we can ameliorate the distressing situation. Coming into contact with, speaking to, and intimately understanding these incredible individuals can dramatically alter one’s perspective and ensure treatment with self respect and dignity. I strongly believe in this notion of early involvement. My changed view coupled with my future medical training in college will allow me to be a figure to emulate and hopefully inspire others to follow this path. By embarking on this monumental journey mankind has the opportunity to shape history and enrich the lives of others while personally experiencing the most rewarding of all endeavors: helping someone in need.

In 1995 Diana had separated from the public life and the Queen asked Charles and Diana for an early divorce as a result of Diana’s panoramic interview where she discussed Charles’s disloyalties and previews recordings (Oglesby, Pamela). For a while Diana dated another man in secret, Hasnat Khan, a British surgeon. Later she began dating Dodi Al-Fayed, son of her host for the summer of 1997, Mohamed Al-Fayed. Diana was seen with Dodi in many places. This was a feast for the paparazzi and the press.
As the leader of her nurse corps, Nightingale set the example that the patient should be first and she showed this through her actions and her compassion toward them.
The Queen stripped Diana of the title of “Her Royal Highness,” which showed that the Queen wanted no ties to Diana. The people referred to the Royals as “cold hearted” people for the way they responded to the news of Diana’s death. Instead of responding to the news right away, the Royals were not seen or heard from for days following the accident. The family was spotted going to church as normal, acting as if the accident never happened. People continued to lash out at the family, demanding they break their silence and honor Princess Diana.

Earl Spencer is Princess Diana’s younger brother and he holds experience as an author, journalist and broadcaster. Commemorating the life of Princess Diana, Earl Spencer was able to unite the whole world and remind them of her iconic actions for humanity. Given September 6th, 1997, his eulogy argues that Princess Diana’s assets as well as insecurities enabled her to be the “People’s Princess”, creating her own sense of nobility, separated from the royal family.

He says that Diana, Princess of Wales, was born Diana Frances Spencer on July 1st, 1961. Her parents divorced at a young age, leaving her and her siblings in a bitter custody battle. When her father inherited the title of Earl Spencer, she became Lady Diana Spencer. After she finished with school, she worked as a nanny and a kindergarten teacher. She had a passion for taking care of children. She grew up knowing the Royal family quite well. Princess Diana’s younger brother is the Queen’s godson. Morton also talks about Princess Diana’s relationship with Prince Charles. Princess Diana was known throughout the world as being a well rounded, gorgeous woman, but through all of that she was also a hero in many people’s eyes. Diana was often called Princess Diana by the media and the public, but she did not enjoy such a title and did not personally think of herself as a princess. This is a point Diana herself made to people who referred to her as such. She always had a strong head on her shoulders, no matter what might have been going on at the time. Diana tried to not let various things get her down, even though some could have destroyed her. Diana also spoke with surprising truthfulness about her own personal struggles with bulimia and suicide, giving individuals struggling with these issues a role model of openness and honesty. Princess Diana used her media popularity to bring attention to the needs of the forgotten and needy of the world. She was out to seek a symbol in everyone’s life, life itself.
