The birth of a child is said to be a beautiful and one of the most exciting experiences for expecting mothers. The joy of being able to Cherish the sweet precious moments of watching a newborn take their first breath, choosing a name and trying to squeeze them in their first pair of clothes that just so happens to be too small. Every mother has different child birth experiences which makes bringing in a new life so special for many. After giving birth it is very common for mothers to be in an emotional state. There are many different types of emotional disturbances that can have an impact on the mother which can be considered normal or unusual. Another reason could be financial situations; the mother could be living in poverty. As well maybe the mother might feels alone because the father might not want to be in the child’s life. In addition maybe the mother to be was just not ready to handle the responsibilities as a mother. All in all there are so many reasons for what triggers this disorder, as well as many symptoms that help distinguish this from other disorders. Postpartum depression not only affects the mother but can also have major impacts on the child as well. When a baby is born they are very dependent on their mothers for their first year of survival. They depend on their mothers to feed, bathe, and nurture them. So when a mother is experiencing postpartum depression it can cause an emotional disconnect between the mother and child, which has effects on the infant’s development. It can affect the child’s physical, cognitive and socioemtional development which in turn could have long-term effects which could lead into adulthood.
