Lately, I have been feeling stressed can yoga help me relax? I have been feeling more stressed then usual. I have been having a lot going on in the past few months. A few months ago my mom being super sick, that I had to take her place and help my dad with the responsibilities at home. Ever since my mom became ill, the doctors told her that she could not work no more. This was a big set back for our family. I have two younger siblings, one just barely started high school, and the other one is in elementary school. Know that my mom is sick I have to take her place and work longer hours to help my dad pay for utilities, while also attending school full-time and on top of that I have to start worrying about applying for nursing school. As she was starting the class she told us that this class should be about confidence and that all of us should feel good about ourselves, that we should not force ourselves if we cannot master a poster. It about learning from your mistakes and feeling at ease with yourself. So we started by getting into the 7-point posture of Vairocana. The instructor told us to close our eyes relax and let go of all the tension in our body. She then said that we were doing to start of with some breathing exercise. She told us that the first breathing exercise would be an exercise to help us bring aware of our breathing. For this exercise we places ours hand by our abdominal and she told us to pay close attention to our normal breathing. Afterwards she told us to introduce a slight pause after each inhalation and exhalation so that our breaths could be more relax. We did this exercise for around five minutes. After that we started doing some poses. We started with the belly twist, followed by the knew down twist, then the half wind relieving pose, then the bridge and we ended up with the corpse. The pose that we spend around 20 minutes in was the corpse also known as the “Shavasan.” To me this posture was one of the most confortable one we did. For this poster we lay on our backs with our arms and legs flat open at a 45-degree angle. This pose according to the teacher “Helps our body, mind and spirit to rejuvenate, while it reduces the stress in our bodies and the tension in our muscles.” While laying on that pose I felt my thought arising I started thinking about all things that are happening to me. After thinking about everything that is going on, I thought to myself maybe this is a test from God. Maybe I have to stay strong for my family and I and maybe soon everything will be okay.
