There were both negative and positive effects of the Columbian Exchange. One of the negative effects was a sickness broke out. Large bumps spread on people. Eventually the people could no longer walk and were in pain. They later died or starved to death. Another negative effect was millions of Native Americans in Central Mexico died. They were not used to the diseases that Europeans and Asians contracted. Lastly there was slavery. Slave trade supported plantation economies rooted in violence. Brazil had the most slaves and used them to work in sugar fields. The slaves brought diseases like malaria, yellow fever, and dengue to America. The slave traders and European traders also brought diseases back to Europe.
