During the last decade, we have seen an increase of technology in every household around the world. Nowadays anybody can have access to all types of Technologies that exist. Titus and Violet the main characters of “Feed” by Anderson, were trapped by the Technology; they both were captive, but in different ways. Do we really put limits when we use technology or do we let technology to use us?
In the “Feed” by M.T. Anderson, the technology in America has increase dramatically. There is a “Feed net” which we compare with the internet today but more developed to the point that they are able to implant in the brain a small computer chip, this is well known as “the feed”, as we have read in the novel the feed is what helps them to collect all kind of information. The feed makes everyone dependable on technology and there is no more privacy because the 70% of Americans that have the feed implanted in their brains, their thoughts have been captive and they are now monitored and interrupted by pop-up ads. Does this sound familiar to us? We know that we are also spamming by so much advertising through emails, text messaging, mail, and television to mention some ways that attract our attention. In the “Feed”, they all have brain implants with feeds from companies overwhelming their heads with the latest in everything on the market. They are implanted since they were born and have absolutely no control over the contents of the feed. “The feed” pretty much takes over all aspects of life and characters and people are not even permitted to think freely because they are not at liberty to do so. I truly believe that as people focus more on their online social lives that their ability to interact normally in person will suffer as a consequence. The feed takes away creativity, curiosity, concern for and awareness of others, the serious business of life, and the possibility for satisfying human relationships.
Feed is a must-read book for everyone growing up in this age of technology, because it shows us how much we could damage ourselves with all of these devices and gizmos. Technology shouldn’t be a substitute for our own brains, when we count too much on technology; we lose that critical thinking ability. In our age, this means we must be aware of the technology we use, so that we can use it and not have it use us.
Technology has been around as long as people have and has been advancing ever since. It is the reason that we have access to the miraculous tools that we do today. From the forks that we eat our supper with to the cars that get us from place to place technology is everywhere. However, with technology advancing at such a rapid pace, it could pose a threat to our future society. These books caution people of our reliance on technology is getting out of control. People are becoming increasingly reliant on phones or computers. Feed and Wall-E warn people of the gloomy dystopian worlds that can transmute into the next generations world. Feed and Wall-E symbolizes our caveats for the possible near future destruction.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a veterinarian, but as I grew up and experienced new things, that changed. I was lucky that I discovered this before I went to college, but others aren’t so lucky. Many people spend thousands of dollars on a college degree only to discover later on that they want to change careers. Rather than spend a small fortune and years of time getting a new degree, people can go to a vocational or technical school. These schools are exactly what the people in this country need to get the jobs they deserve. In the novel Feed, by M.T. Anderson, we learn about a society in which everybody has a “feed”. The feed is like an internal cell phone implanted into your brain, except it can do much more. The main character Titus, along with his friends use their feeds to message each other, shop online, play games, and even watch TV right behind their eyes. However things take a turn when Titus and his friends are hacked by a protest group known as the “coalition of pity” while visiting the moon. Their feeds become damaged and unusable. All of a sudden their worlds are turned upside down and they don’t know what to do with their lives.
“Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards” (“Brainy Quotes” 1). While this epitomizes modern time, it also represents M.T. Anderson’s Feed and Pixar’s Wall-E. Feed is a book about a dystopian society influenced by a device, called “feed”, implanted in the brains of the citizens. The author describes a group of regular teenagers that venture to the moon for a spring break vacation of partying and going “in mal”. The main character, Titus, falls for a girl named Violet who is not like the other stereotypical teens in this book. Violet received the feed when she was much older and she is homeschooled so her brain is more developed. Together, they go on outrageous adventures until a hacker at a dance club causes them to lose their feeds. Unfortunately for Violet, repairing her feed was practically impossible; meaning, Violet was slowly dying. Together, Titus and Violet question society, feed, and the way of life as they create their journey in the book, Feed. In Pixar’s Wall-E, the world has been abandoned by all of humanity because of the over polluted atmosphere. However, one creature still exists on earth, a garbage-collecting robot named Wall-E. One day, a futuristic, well-developed robot arrives on earth inspecting the earth of any species of life. Wall-E falls in love with the robot, Eve, and when she returns home on her spaceship, he hops on and catches a ride to space. There, Eve and Wall-E work together to save the planet earth in a futuristic love story, Wall-E. M.T. Anderson’s Feed and Pixar’s Wall-E, exaggerate a society influenced by technology using both similar and different story lines.

One second my best friend just texted me… Ok what was I saying?.. Oh right; It has distracted us from our studies, our loved ones, and even our driving. Technology is making us less intelligent, oblivious to our surroundings, and antisocial.
In summary, both the article and the novel critique the public’s reliance on technology. This topic is relevant today because Feed because it may be how frightening the future society may look like.
Technology is constantly changing, growing, and evolving, but with each change in technology we risk our own privacy. With each new update we get we are told it improves our network or life, but in reality it makes it easier to invade our privacy just like in the 1984 novel by George Orwell. There are many parallels between 1984 and our present day, like the over watchful eyes of the government for our own good. .
