Have you ever considered becoming a mechanic, well if you have wouldn't it be nice to be able to leave high school making about $40,000 a year without out college expenses? Many schools throughout the United States still have auto shop as part of the high school courses, but we do not. I have talked to many of my friends and simply asked the question “Wouldn't it be nice if we had an auto mechanics class? ” many of them say yes. Since we are part of a decent sized farming community Mechanics are very much needed, so why not offer the class? We have many classes in the school that don't have very many students attending them so why not take some of those other classes away and put the money towards a class students will actually attend, and …show more content…
One thing that is a problem is that tools are not cheap, especially if you want quality tools. We could go around to local businesses and ask to donate tools for the class, or get funding from the community. If the class only did small repairs it would not take to long and we would have all the right tools.
Having a place to teach the class also becomes a problem. I talked to a few people in the community who had the class when they were in high school, and they mentioned that it was across town at Jack Kelly’s shop. I thought about maybe just having it in the Ag shop and only doing small repairs. If the shop was not on school grounds we would face the problem of transportation. Transportation would be a problem if we had the shop across town like it was before. We could take a bus to the shop, but that would eat into the short time we would have for the class.
Some teachers are not qualified to teach the class, which is another reason why we do not have the class. We could bring a mechanic from outside of the community to teach the class, just because they do not have a teaching degree does not mean they are not smart enough to teach the class. I talked to my dad who said that Rich Elness used to teach the class. Now you have to have a teaching degree to be able to teach student even though you have enough
-Principal Emmert said that, in the beginning, a computer lab was opened up. But Fremont quickly shut it down as it wasn’t very productive, and there was only a classified staff member in the lab. There are computers in their library and in the Admin Room (I’ll get to that room in a bit) and many teachers have carts. Maybe we should c...
Instead of having a student who just goes up there and does the problem and then just goes and sits
... They could pull out the school or district coaches and allocate them in the classrooms. Even when that was the original idea, the politics of schools changed the plans. For some unknown reason, the coach who started teaching that group, went back to her office and those students are been taught with videos, like the ones use in Florida Virtual School (FVS). The students do not have the opportunity to ask questions, to interact with a math teacher, or to create a positive learning environment.
Salida Elementary has academically successful staff members. Together everyone could collaborate and come up with a program that would be motivating and exciting. We could also work physical education into the day where extra hours would not have to be added and learning in the classroom would not be affected.
We petitioned the administration for a calculus-based physics course, something that had never been done at our high school, and were able to help research the curriculum and design the class itself. Most students take regular physics or algebra based AP Physics - which tends to lose students the first week, as kids decide that the class isn't worth the effort - however, our class was different. The first day of school we had sixteen students- by the end of the week, we had twenty. Our classmates were excited and saw the value of a collaborative, student-driven course that would prepare us for the AP Physics C exam.
Ever since 1917, Auto Mechanics have been a major priority to most people through transportation. This career field is very important to human civilization because people must have some kind of transportation every day for work, food, and just everyday needs (Weintraub page# 9). Schools should provide the opportunity for students to complete an automotive repair program, because students who complete these programs most likely will be given a chance to start at an entry-level position as a technician. Another advantage with these programs is that by completing recognized mechanics programs throughout high school, it allows students to convert it to a year of on the job experience. It is essential for high schools to include a mechanics program as it would impair them otherwise because technology is continuing to advance. Without any experience, a student will not be informed on how things have changed and will just be one step behind if trying to start a career in this field (Nature of the Work). Eddie Tilley, a two year graduate in mechanics from Forsyth Tech, said, “I think [with] the way technology is going, everything will keep improving, and it will make it more challenging to work on vehicles unless you have a lot of computer technology to diagnose what the problem is” (Tilley). This is why high schools should include a mechanics program that works with local mechanics to train students for
A bit more than two years ago, I developed a bad habit. This habit did not come from watching my parents or my friends, or even from the pressures of modern society and television. This habit developed due to a series of unfortunate events. I tend to drive with a lead foot. Each year, 13,000 lives are lost in accidents which the speed of a vehicle was a factor. Despite this, I found myself constantly questioning “What if I only drove 5, 10, maybe even 15 miles per hour over the speed limit that day?” This pestering question inside my head morphed itself into a monster, consuming my entire being. This entity could not be cured by talking to a therapist, journaling, or even exercising. This monster morphed itself into the bad habit that I have today. I no longer ask myself this question daily, instead I tend to drive with a lead foot. 13,000 lives are lost in accidents which the speed of a vehicle was a factor, yet if I did speed to work that day, I could have saved a life.
With the economy still at a low, most people just do not have that extra cash stowed away for special situations. The average income for an American family is said to be around $30,437 per tax payer and has only increased about $59 over the last 40 years. Yet prices on everything else seem to always be on the rise. How we save money and why we save money has changed over the last few decades. It always feels good to have some money set away for emergencies, but many people don't have this option and are living paycheck to paycheck.
Running a farm can be hard work, especially if you don't have the right equipment. While it can be rewarding, farming doesn't always provide you with a lot of money, however the equipment costs for operating a farm a substantial. and so if your equipment was to break down you may not necessarily be able to afford to replace it. Tractors in particular can be expensive to purchase or replace. That is why many farmers are turning to the internet.
Technology is evolving faster than ever these days, however there is one technology that could revolutionize the transportation industry. This technology is called autonomous cars, also known as self-driving cars. Autonomous cars can be defined as a vehicle that is capable of sensing its environment, and navigating without human input. Using different techniques such as GPS and radar, autonomous cars can detect surroundings, thus removing the human element in driving. This would have a positive effect in more ways than we could ever imagine. Research suggests that self-driving cars will become more abundant in the future because they will be more cost-effective, enhance safety, and decrease traffic congestion.
little help. They are able to be a non-disabled classroom and learn like a normal student would.
The only prior classroom experience I had was push in support and running a small seminar with high school students while a teacher was present. I was now being asked to plan and run my own classes without any support or training. This was not only unfair me but was also a disservice to the students. The district these students attend school in is historically underserved and therefore cannot provide its teachers and students with the adequate support for success- I felt as if I was contributing to a broken system. Knowing my concerns were not being heard I mad the decision to face my challenge
After finishing the teaching part of the lesson, I realized that not everything goes according to plan. For example, in our lesson plan, we had the explain portion detailed and outlined to teach students the technical terms of what they were seeing in the stations and other activities and make it a collaborative effort within groups to work with the vocabulary words. However, the teaching of the plan was not well executed. Also, I learned that teaching a topic does not have to be boring or just full of worksheets. Fun, engaging lab stations and interactive activities can fulfill the standards and requirements just as well, if not better, than basic worksheets and PowerPoint lectures. Lastly, I realized that lesson planning and teaching require a great deal of effort and work, but it is all worth it when a light bulb goes off in a students’ head and they learn something new and are excited to be learning and extend their science
In the late 1900’s a massive trend took over America. Smoking became a huge hit especially among teenagers. It was cool, and those that smoked sat at the top of the social ladder in high schools across America. The success of smoking and its popularity among teenagers was due to the public perception about smoking. At the time of its success, the public perception was wildly positive. There were claims that smoking had great effects on individual health and that there were no negative side effects. There is nothing more telling about the American perception of smoking than the movie Grease, where the nice girl becomes queen of the school after a lifestyle change that includes the addition of smoking. However, America has changed. Americans
