Mount Everest, the largest mountain in the world is considered a natural wonder of the world. This magnificent mountain is situated on the border between Tibet and Nepal at 27° 59' north latitude and 86° 55 east longitude. The exact height of Mount Everest is debated; however, the official altitude of the mountain’s highest peak is 29,029 feet. Mount Everest is part of the great Himalaya ranges and is composed of multiples of rock layers. The mountain consists of metamorphic and gneiss rocks on the lower elevations and igneous granite rocks on the top. The peak of Everest is covered by rock-hard snow which is covered by a softer layer of snow.
The climate of Mount Everest is extremely bitter and it is very difficult and risky for the adventurers to climb to the summit of the mountain. The mountain is covered by the glaciers and the temperature of the summit can drop as low as -76°C. The Jet Stream which is a constant wind force blows strongly on the mountain, making the journey of the climbers extremely difficult. Furthermore, the oxygen content in the air decreases as the altitude increases and on the peak of Everest, there is only one third of oxygen in the air. Mt Everest is considered a world’s wonder for its enormous height and size and beauty of the ranges.
History of the Mount Everest: The Himalayan mountain ranges, including the Mount Everest were thrust from the tectonic action due to the collision of Indian-Australian plate and Eurasian plate about 50 million years ago. Then, the Himalayas themselves began to rise about 25 to 30 million years ago. Nowadays, Mt Everest continues to grow 4mm a year due to geologic uplifts. Two ways to visit the Paricutin volcano itself is by hiking or horse- back. Although it is easier to travel by horseback, horse hires are expensive as they cost about 500 pesos. For the adventurers, the best way to experience the Paricutin volcano is by hiking as they can explore the sandy banks, buried village homes and lava fields around the volcanoes.
There is a visitor centre in the Paricutin village and guiding services are available there. However, it is not very necessary to take a guide to hike the Paricutin volcano. It is also better to travel with a group rather than independently. It is good to explore the Paricutin volcano at any time of the year during spring, summer, autumn or winter.
