Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself of or others.
Six years ago, my two parrots laid eggs for the first time. Long before those baby birds were hatched, I had done researches about raising instructions online. From the instructions, I desiccated chicken egg shells and mixed egg shell powders with the millets, which were the main food for the parrots. It would thus provide the parents with more calcium and prevent them from eating up their eggs in order to replenish themselves. Moreover, I learned to check if the eggs were fertilized by using a flashlight shining straight through the eggs. Deep colored yolks presented through the egg shells showed that those eggs were good to be hatched. In about twenty days, all seven eggs were hatched successfully. I was more excited than anyone - this was the first time I got to take care of newborn parrots! Minding the infants was more difficult than minding the unhatched eggs: newborns were frail and incompetent, and they died easily.Thinking of this, I suddenly felt the responsibility fell upon me.

Lacking of straw, I used dried barley for the bedding of the nest. However, that was a huge mistake. Many baby parrots got choked by barley while climbing and searching for food - their throat were too tender and too thin to eat such big food. Although I found out the cause quickly and changed the bedding, some of the parrots still died on my hands. I cried for hours. Guilt and regret crept in. “They would have lived if I could be more careful and followed the instructions,” I blamed myself ceaselessly. As I decided give up raising them, my parents came to me and said, “Don’t lose your heart! It’s not easy to bring up a newborn. You can make some changes and try
Some people even step on their nest and bringing pets that kill the chicks and destroy the eggs. As these things kept on happening, their population started to decrease.
Chickens are one of the top most tortured animals in factory farms. Farmers get the most money for chickens that are heavier and have enlarged thighs and breasts. Like most factory farmed animals, broiler chickens are raised in overcrowded cages their entire life, and become very aggressive. Because of this aggressiveness the employees of the farms cut of their beaks and toes without any type of painkiller or an anesthetic just to keep them from fighting. After being “debeaked” some chickens are then not able to eat and starve. Layer chickens lay 90-95% of the eggs sold in the U.S. (2013b) The torture starts the day they are born. Chicks are placed on a belt, where an employee than picks up each chick to see if it is a male or female. Newborn male chicks are thrown into trash bags, ground up alive, crushed, and killed many other inhumane ways.
The flocks split in the later part of winter, so the pair is left with the responsibility of defending their nesting territory. The nest sites are usually holes in trees, hollow parts in rotten stumps, or abandoned nests of other birds. Both the male and female work until the hole or nest suitable for living. The male bird has the job of making sure the female is well fed during the spring while the female takes care of the nest which consists of usually 1 to 7 eggs per season. Unlike many other species of birds, both the male and the female play an equal part in taking care of the nest and their

I realized that the world was full of imperfections and that me educating myself was the first step to making it better. I did not always agree with what my parents or classmates said, but I did not care. The incident that really made be question all that I thought and understood, took place in my eighth grade Latin class. It was towards the end of the year and we were discussing philosophy and ethics. At this point in the year I was over everything and was not too interested in hearing what my teacher had to say until he began to talk about the neutrality of nature.
Bird nests, in particular those located in areas of low density vegetation have a higher degree of predation than those located in areas of high density vegetation. Such nests in these locations are preyed upon by many species. In the following experiment bird’s eggs made of white plasticine to emulate that of a real bird egg were placed in bird nests made of tennis balls that had been cut in half which were then covered with coconut fibers that was glued to them, two of these artificial eggs were then placed in each nest- a total of two nests were created. One of the two bird nests was placed in an area of low density vegetation and the other was placed in an area of high density vegetation to test the hypothesis that there is a
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
My journey of self realization was complete and it brought me to a state of mind that helped me realize that I could achieve anything I put my mind and heart to. This life changing moment defines me as a person and spurred my drive for excellence in everything I

The Kakapo (Strigops habroptilus), a flightless parrot native exclusively to New Zealand is currently listed on the International Union of Conservation of Nature’s Red List under ‘Critically Endangered’. This listing has really highlighted the problem of the declining population of the kakapo, and can only emphasise the fact that something needs to be done to save this struggling species. In this report I am going to investigate and discuss solutions to revive the struggling kakapo population. I am mainly going to focus on the in situ conservation of supplementary feeding of kakapo, while also investigating the use of artificial insemination and the ex situ conservation captive breeding.
As I am preparing for a new chapter in my life, I have put a lot thought in about what I want out of life and what to look forward to as I get older. In order for one to achieve anything, they need to set goals to reach for. I have a handful of goals for my future, short term and long term, that I will actively work towards in my college years and beyond. In my time at UW Eau Claire, I plan to be involved and engaged in student activities on campus. Being active will help me meet new people, build a better resume, and have fun at college. At UWEC, I would like to get involved in anything musical, along with various clubs and Greek life. Similarly, another goal of mine is to have a job on campus. Having a job will not only help me make some
My parents always tell me how proud they are of me and all i’ve accomplished in my life at such a young age. I’ve always been known as the “responsible one”, or the “smart one” out of all my friends. I’ve always been the one to remind my friends about tests or reports that are due, and they always ask what they would do without me.
An Event which changed my life, well when, I think back on my life there’s
According to Marıa et al., (2004) reduced locomotion activity increases stress due to the frustration of not being able to express some behaviors, for example, lack of access to nests (Duncan, 1998). Benefits of environmental enrichment to poultry is even distribution of birds in the available space, which permits more activity and locomotion that reduces disturbances and aggression as well as fear and stress (Leone and Estévez, 2008). Certain poultry behaviour has a strong incentive and poultry welfare is negatively affected if the birds are not allowed to express these behaviours (Linares and Martin, 2010). These authors stated that frustration, fear, and pain are the negative mental states of poultry and include increased aggression, displacement preening, and stereotyped pacing. Study from Linares and Martin (2010), confirms that extreme nervousness and hysteria are signs of poor welfare and they are associated with high population densities in large group, exposure to clamor, unexpected movement, or inexperienced circumstances, which result in skin trauma from scratches, spontaneous fractures, lessened feed consumption, decreased egg production, and reproductive disorders such as internal laying and peritonitis secondary to abdominal
I believe that hard work is the real treasure of a person because without hard work we cannot achieve our dreams and goals in life. No one can achieve success without doing hard work. It starts when we stop looking for alternatives or shortcuts towards success. We need to remember that there are no short cuts to success. Hard work, complimented with an intense desire to struggle and to achieve success is the only sure way of reaching success that you have always wanted. Hard work is one of the secret for us to be successful in life. Laziness and sluggishness makes one’s life a curse and only hard work can make your life a blessing. We cannot work hard if we don’t have goals. The meaning of goal according to Wikipedia is a desired result of a
