We live in world full of natural disasters and tragedies. It seems as if a new mass shooting devastates a community every other week, or a hurricane wipes out an entire city. In the face of tragedy we must decide how we respond. Do we go about our lives like before? Do we just do the best we can to make it through? Or do we use the tragedy to serve our personal and social agendas? Many question the motives of people who become activist in the wake of tragedy, and others praise them for there bravery. What’s your problem? So many questions come to mind when looking at tragedies such as the Parkland shooting. The problem I want to discuss is one that sparks much debate, and we can use the Parkland shooting as an example. Is it right or wrong for the people in Parkland to become activist for gun control after what they experienced? Why not follow the rules? …show more content…

There are people who view it as a strict rule that we have the right to own guns no matter the situation, and others strongly disagree with the 2nd amendment and want it banned. Some people stand in the middle and want compromise. We can’t answer the problem here because the rules don’t decide right and wrong when it comes to standing for what you believe. Who wins, who loses? The people of Stoneman Douglas witnessed a classmate terrorize their school with a gun. In the grand scheme of things, no one wins from a mass shooting leaving 17 people dead. Looking through the students eyes, they may want to find some meaning out of their tragedy. Students like David Hogg and Emma Gonzalez have risen up and expressed very strong opinions on gun control. Other students have remained quiet and are trying to find a new normal. For David and Emma, standing for their beliefs could help them and an entire movement win.
