In the tragic play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare two star crossed lovers meet during a party and have a connection of love when they meet. Because their affection for each other is so great, they get married without their parents consent. They want to stay together for the rest of their lives but Juliet’s parents decided to have Juliet marry Paris and things get dangerous from then. Throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet could have been saved from death if Friar Lawrence tried to save Juliet, get the letter to Romeo, and not marry them without their parents consent.
The Friar had the chance to save Juliet and Romeo if he got the letter to Romeo sooner. Friar Laurence just received news that Friar John has not delivered the letter
Friar knew about Romeo and Juliet’s secret romance from the beginning, but he did not do anything to stop it, in fact, it was Friar who married the two. Friar Lawrence knew what could happen, but his only advice was to take it slow. In addition, Friar Lawrence also gave Juliet the potion to put her into a fake death so she could avoid marrying Paris. After putting serious consideration into drinking the potion, Juliet decided to take the chance.
In William Shakespeare’s tragic play Romeo and Juliet, two young lovers from opposing households make impetuous decisions which ultimately lead to the suicide of both lovers (Romeo and Juliet). Juliet, one lover, has mentors that fail her in the play because of their ignorance of her emotional needs and growing independence as a teenager. These mentors are Juliet’s former wet nurse and guardian, the Nurse, Juliet’s mother, Lady Capulet, and Juliet’s father, Lord Capulet.
Friar Lawrence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s stronger affections for each other because he married them and therefore binding their love. Friar Lawrence also came up with a risky solution to get Romeo and Juliet together for the rest of their lives without anyone knowing. However, it consisted of faking Juliet’s death and Romeo did not know she was not actually dead, but alive. Friar Lawrence’s messenger did not tell Romeo the plan in time because Romeo had already heard of Juliet’s death and had gone to her tomb to die with her. Juliet is to drink a potion to make her appear dead, and later wake to be free of the shame of marrying Paris. Here, Friar Lawrence is assuring Juliet that he will send a letter to Romeo, explaining their plan. Romeo doesn’t receive that letter, and he does not know what is to happen. Free will comes with great consequences. Friar Lawrence and Juliet inflicted their own wounds by not telling Romeo of their plan. If they had taken the time to make sure that Romeo got the information, their plan might have succeeded, and Romeo and Juliet would be free to marry each other. A greater power than we can contradict hath thwarted our intents. (V, iii, 154-155)
Friar Lawrence's good intentions of marrying Romeo and Juliet to create peace with the two families is also to blame for the tragedy. The secret marriage does not help the feud at all it just results in the Friar having to make some risky decisions about the fate of Romeo and Juliet. His plan for Juliet to take the poison and the letters to be sent to Romeo ends up being fatal. If the Friar had not given Juliet the potion then Romeo would never had come back to Verona to kill himself.

Anna Freud, the founder of child psychoanalysis, once said, “It is only when parental feelings are ineffective or too ambivalent or when the mother's emotions are temporarily engaged elsewhere that children feel lost” (“Anna Freud”). In this case, the children, Romeo and Juliet, get lost and confused, leading to their ultimate deaths. While they cannot live without each other, they also cannot live with each other either, since they end up dying together from all the conflicts piling on top on each other. Since Romeo and Juliet do not really have any parental influence in their lives, they do not know how resolve their conflict of star-crossed love. Due to miscommunication, conflicting viewpoints between parents and adolescents, and a lack of involvement in their children’s lives, Shakespeare shows through Romeo and Juliet that adults are ineffective in saving their children’s lives.
Friar Laurence was once looked up to by both Romeo and Juliet, constantly telling them to act with more caution and restraint. In spite of this, he doesn't wait long to marry off these lovebirds. It has broken many hearts of the citizens in Verona and left many others
Friar Laurence, through his lack of good judgment, is largely responsible for the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet. Rather than being supportive of them and helping them disclose their loving situation, Friar Laurence took the “easy” way out. He succumbed to their desire to elope. He secretly married Romeo and Juliet instead of standing behind them and encouraging them to confront their families with the facts about their commitment to and love for each other. As a result, an even stronger bond between them was created through marriage: "For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone / Till holy church incorporate two in one" (2.6.36-37). Friar Laurence married Romeo and Juliet, hoping that their union would bring an end to the constant feuding between their two families, the Montagues and the Capulets. Though the friar’s intentions were good and above reproach, they were certainly missteps along a pathway to tragedy. None of the tragedies would have occurred if Romeo and Juliet were not married. First of all, the dishonesty of Friar Lawrence, who married Romeo and Juliet, foreshadows the probability of his continuity to take even more insincere measures in manipulating the consequences faced by the young lovers. The Friar carries out an erroneous act of secretly marrying them under the church’s license without manifesting it in the public and encourages them to deceive their parents by keeping their relationship to themselves. He then agrees to marry Juliet and Paris, a county, and plans on faking her death, in order to avoid the marriage instead of revealing the truth about Romeo and Juliet right away. “I hear thou must, and nothing may prorogue it,/On Thursday next be married to this County.” (4.1.49-50) In short, various incidents in the lives of Romeo and Juliet, controlled by Friar Lawrence’s cowardice result in undesirable circumstances.
The Friar married the two without the families consent; setting it all in motion. Friar also came up with all the plans for the marriage and Juliet's fake death. The friar predicted his fate when he said, "May the heavens be happy with this holy act of marriage so nothing unfortunate happens later to make us regret it." (2.6.1-2). The marriage would result in the death of the lovers. Friar purposely kept the wedding a secret, and told Romeo he would, "help you with your secret marriage" (2.3.89-90). If they had never been married they would both still be alive. Friar married Romeo and Juliet which made the wedding to Paris an even greater pressure for Juliet, and eventually leading to their deaths.
Friar Laurence’s involvement in the marriage of Romeo and Juliet has caused a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet thought that they fell in love, but the Friar should have known that they were just kids and they were really rushing into things. In Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence says, “These violent delights have violent ends. Is loathsome in his own deliciousness, and in the taste confounds the appetite: Therefore love moderately: long love doth so, too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.” When he says this, he is giving Romeo a warnin. Also, Friar Lawrence should have known at the time, that Romeo was loving with his eyes and not with his heart. For example, Romeo was in a relationship with Rosaline, before marrying Julliet. Inonclusion , the Friar did not have the expierence to know that they were kids.
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is one of the most well known love tragedies of all time. Within four days they meet, fall in love, get married, and kill themselves. One bad thing after another, and Friar Lawrence is to blame. He married Juliet even when he knew about the feud, he even married them when he knew that Romeo was head over heels for a completely different girl just a few hours prior. Friar Lawrence is also the reason for their death...he gave Juliet the potion, as well as failed to get the letter to Romeo in time. Friar Lawrence was selfish, he’s to blame for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
Finally, the friar gives the letter about "the fake death plan" to Friar John when he should have delivered it himself. Despite any other "at fault" characters in Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence is the most responsible for the tragic events that occur in the play because of his miscommunication, dishonesty and poor decision making. Beginning with Friar Lawrence's first mistake, he marries Romeo and Juliet not knowing that it would create a controversy. When Friar Lawrence marries Romeo and Juliet, no one knows and there is no parental consent. By not telling anyone, Romeo and Juliet are put in danger because of this secret.
Parents' Roles in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet experience adversity ultimately ending in their deaths as they do not have alternative means to support their marriage; the society they live in is aggressive and their feuding families have an 'ancient grudge' so powerful and potent that the protagonists cannot disclose their love to their parents. They are unable to confide in their parents is due to the lack of communication. Instead of Romeo's and Juliet's parents providing love, care and affection these qualities are brought to them by the Nurse and Friar Lawrence who fulfil the duties and responsibilities of parenting far better than Romeo and Juliet's actual parents. However, as the play unravels both the Nurse and Friar Lawrence reveal weaknesses, lacking in character and moral strength; the Friar illustrates this when he abandons Juliet and the Nurse demonstrates this when she betrays Juliet leaving her stranded. The parenting provided for both Romeo and Juliet is insufficient and leaves them having to make their own decisions.
