The seven-paged college journal entitles “Can Paraphrasing Practice Help Students Define Plagiarism?” by Barry explain about the study of students understanding towards plagiarism through paraphrasing. Researchers ask for students, in a written form, to explain the definition of plagiarism in a set of time before and after paraphrasing practice. The main focus of the researcher and many instructors are concerned about is why students cannot avoid plagiarism. Several studies have proved that the lack of students’ knowledge about plagiarism led the students plagiarize something as depicted in some other researches findings. In addition, there are 33 more students who act as a control group for the post test result. The students were given some quotes with practice paraphrasing from the original source. Furthermore, the test materials were given and accomplished as in-class activities. Weekly paraphrasing homework was due with one practice for one week and turned a week after in class. This practice was due for six weeks long. Procedure of research conducted in early semesters whereas 35 students followed a pretest to identify their knowledge about plagiarism. The participants completed paraphrasing assignment continuously in over the next 6 weeks with 100 to 125 words in each assignment and they were provided a citation in APA style right after the post test. This ended by the post test which was done immediately after they finished with their six-week practice. After testing doing testing and giving practice to all participants in pone semester, the research findings show that the post test score are higher than the pretest for almost all participants of research. They could avoid plagiarism because of their adequate understanding of plagiarism is supported by the paraphrasing and citing exercises.
