America has gone through many hardships and struggles since coming together as a nation involving war and changes in the political system. Many highly regarded leaders in America have come bestowing their own ideas and foundation to provide a better life for “Americans”, but no other war or political change is more infamous than the civil war and reconstruction. Reconstruction started in 1865 and ended in 1877 and still to date one of the most debated issues in American history on whether reconstruction was a failure or success as well as a contest over the memory, meaning, and ending of the war. According to, “Major Problems in American History” David W. Blight of Yale University and Steven Hahn of the University of Pennsylvania take different stances on the meaning of reconstruction, and what caused its demise. David W. Blight argues that reconstruction was a conflict between two solely significant, but incompatible objectives that “vied” for attention both reconciliation and emancipation. On the other hand Steven Hahn argues that former slaves and confederates were willing and prepared to fight for what they believed in “reflecting a long tradition of southern violence that had previously undergirded slavery” Hahn also believes that reconstruction ended when the North grew tired of the 16 year freedom conflict. Although many people are unsure, Hahn’s arguments presents a more favorable appeal from support from his argument oppose to Blight. The inevitable end of reconstruction was the North pulling federal troops from the south allowing white rule to reign again and proving time travel exist as freed Africans in the south again had their civil, political, and economical position oppressed.

Herbert George (H.G.) Wells’ 1895 scientific romance novella, The Time Machine, is considered to be one of the forerunners of the science fiction genre. Whilst the story was not the first to explore the concept of time travel, it is quite significant for its pseudoscientific account of how time travel could perhaps occur, this interpretation has shown to be quite influential to numerous productions in both media and literature. Wells explores a number of themes throughout this novella, however there are three prominent ones, the relativity of time, social Darwinism and evolution, and capitalism. These themes explore concepts which are relevant to society and creates connections with the intended 19th century audience.
The future is a something mysterious, and as L. M. Montgomery says in Anne of Green Gables “Isn 't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it 's such an interesting world. It wouldn 't be half so interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There 'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?” As she alludes, we cannot know the future, but we can imagine what it may be by looking at the past. For history tends to repeat itself.
Many people in our society have encouraged others to ¨live in the moment”. Yet with the rapid changes and evolution of technology, scientists have commenced believing that time travel may one day be viable. For some, the thought of being able to go back to the past or into the future is exhilarating and may seem beneficial to our technological advancements and civilization. But in reality, time travel is detrimental to our society and mankind because a change in the past can immensely change what happens in the future, the process of getting there is extremely dangerous, and there would be a vast difference in societal and cultural beliefs.
The possibility of time travel has been explored extensively in the science fiction genre of literature, movies, and television shows. Time travel has an assortment of theories, with views on the definition of time travel, the metaphysics of time, causation, and arguments against the possibility of time travel with responses to counter them.
One of the greatest scientists of our time Stephen Hawking was once quoted to have said “I do believe in time travel, Time travel to the future. Time flows like a river, and it seems as if each of us is carried relentlessly along by time's current. But time is like a river in another way. It flows at different speeds in different places and that is the key to travelling into the future. This idea was first proposed by Albert Einstein over 100 years ago."
