Oprah Winfrey is a very important woman in our lifetime and has influenced many people, and will for years to come. Oprah has changed a multitude of people, and made a difference in our world and society. From growing up in a poor home, to changing her life around and others around her, there are several ways that Oprah can relate to the average person. Many people in today’s society understand what being “poor” feels like. Oprah, a child of a teenage mother, lived with her grandparents in Kosciusko, Mississippi, until her mother found a job.Once her mother found a job, Oprah moved in with her mother in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is the first African American to own and produce her own talk show (Oprah Winfrey Biography). She uses her talk show to persuade and motivate people to do their best, and be successful. She rarely ever focuses on herself, and tries to improve others lives first. For an example, according to Stewart, Oprah once gave away a million dollars to build a school in Zimbabwe. She continues to support other schools and counties. Oprah has made several trips to South Africa, providing funding, and just overall fun for children who are poor. She has also improved the welfare for an innumerable amounts of people, from donating money, to giving away free items, she has proven to be very altruistic. In 1993, President Clinton passed the “Oprah Bill,” because she wanted a national database of convicted child abusers (Oprah Winfrey Biography).
