The Dream of Two Ranch Workers
In the novella, Of Mice & Men, John Steinbeck talks about how George & Lennie’s dream of owning a farm. In the quote, “O.K. Someday--we’re gonna get the jack together & we’re gonna have a little house & a couple of acres and’ a cow & some pigs &-- An’ live off the fatta the lan” (Steinbeck 14). In the relation of their dream, they are motivating themselves & others on the farm.
What keeps them George & Lennie motivated into the dreams they want to accomplish is what makes them have belief in themselves. One reason that George & Lennie motivated is the fact that George telling Lennie he can have rabbits on the farm while George wants to live a better life than they have right now when he tells him, “I remember about the rabbits, George. There is a time when George either plans out what Lennie’s role is by making him work. There are times he’s planning out when it he says, “O.K. Someday-we’re gonna get the jack together & we’re gonna have a little house & a couple of acres an’ a cow & some pigs and-...”. This example of knowledge is significant at this point in this story because it shows that George is a character who thinks before he does the idea in his idea. But, he plans out just in case something gets in the way of their plan. However, there are times that George gets surprised without planning out the idea thoroughly when it says, “They fell into a silence. They looked at one another, amazed. This thing they had never really believed in was true” (Steinbeck ). This example of belief is significant at this point in the story because it shows that George sometimes doesn’t think thoroughly, but is an open minded person who can plan out idea before he does
