In this novel, Of Mice and Men, John Stienbeck focuses on the loneliness of the ranch life in the 1930's. One of the most important things in this novel, not everyone in the novel has the same connection and special relationship like George and Lennie's. Of Mice and Men is a story about lonely men who travel from ranch to ranch not really communicating with other ranch hands. One of the most important relationships delt with this novel is symbiosis. Symbiosis is a neutral term meaning "the living together in close association of two dissimilar organisms." It has the implication that the relationship is beneficial to the organism involved, but that is property of a mutualisic relationship. Lennie's aunt Clara always gave him mice, and he would pet them so hard they'd die instantly. George was always wondering what he was always doing in his pocket. He finds mice and kills them all. He doesn't mean too. Towards the end of the novel, Lennie got to keep one of Slims pups. They were so tiny, Lennie pet the pup so hard he killed it. He hid it so no one would find it. George would be mollified! George promised Lennie that once they get their own ranch, they could own their own soft animals. Lennie have always dreamed to have rabbits, all sorts of colors! He always made George tell him the story of the ranch. Lennie has bad memory and always forgot what George has told him. Lennie was just so excited he could finally touch soft things without getting in trouble, and killing them. That's how George and Lennie show a symbiosis relationship towards
