In O’ Pioneers by Willa Cather many of the characters go through hard times. Cather shows different ways people in this have showed their emotions in the philosophical ways naturalistic, romantic, and realistic. The first one being one of the main characters fathers, Alexandra Bergson who is a girl that can show emotion but acts tougher than than her looks make her. She is a hard worker who eventually has to take over her father's farm when he dies because of how much hes tried to make an impression on the land but had failed many times. She is stuck at a point with herself where she has to take matters into her own hands and start taking care of the farm with her most of her friends still there to help and keep her company. Romantic philosophy is when someone believes that emotions can make big changes. There are a few of these throughout the story some when Emil and Marie two other main characters are unhappy but Emil thinks that Marie should run away from her husband with be with him instead. Another point in this is when one of their friends died and there were little boys and french girls at a festival the boys asked Emil to make sure that a light source was off once they shut off the power so they could sneak kisses on the french girls. This made the topics in the story seem like each person had their own personality and way they see life. She told some of her own story through this book, her hardships and good times. Cather wrote for a purpose to entertain people and just to get her feelings on paper so people could see what she went through and how she dealt with the things in her life. She liked to show the sides of the world and how they were often in conflict with each other. More of her books show this and sometimes she makes fun and other times she agrees. She shows all of the points of view a few times in this
