Nietzsche's Theme Of Inequality

526 Words2 Pages

Persistent throughout Nietzsche’s works is the theme of necessary inequality. In the second part of Thus Spoke Zarathustra he offers an account of those who resist inequality. Depicting them as Tarantulas Nietzsche psychoanalyzes advocates of equality, ultimately attributing their motivation to a desire for revenge. ““We shall wreak vengeance and abuse on all whose equals we are not”-thus do the tarantulas hearts vow. “And ‘will to equality’ shall henceforth be the name for virtue; and against all that has power we want to raise our clamor!”” (p. 212). Recognizing their inferiority, the Tarantula’s seek to level the playing field by dragging others down until their petty existence becomes normalized. What the Tarantula truly seeks is power.
