Niccolo Machiavelli was born on May 3.1469 in Florence, Italy. Niccolo was raised in a middle class family with a peaceful childhood getting a humanistic education. He spent two years studying business mathematics, and then worked seven years in Rome for a Florentine banker. In 1494 he returned to Florence, he witnessed the expulsion of the Medici family has ruled Florence for decades. In 1500 Machiavelli married Marietta Di Lodovico Corsini they had six children together. Three years later Pope Alexander VI became sick with malaria and died he was only in office less than a month. Julius II is an enemy of Borgia’s was elected Julius II later banished Borgia to Spain where he died in 1506. Machiavelli helped raise and train Florentine civil militia in order to reduce Florence’s dependence on mercenaries, later that year he served as Florentine diplomat to Pope Julius whose conduct as the “warrior pope” he observed firsthand. In 1512 the Medici family regained control of Florence and Machiavelli was dismissed from office. One year later he was wrongly accused of participating in a conspiracy to restore the republic he was held in jail for three weeks. After being in jail he left Florence for a quiet town called Sant’ Andrea where he decided to pursue a career in writing. The year of 1513 he began writing his Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livius, a book that focused on states controlled by a politically active citizenry the book wasn’t finished till 1521 mainly because he got interrupted on Discourses to write The Prince. Even through Machiavelli was writing he desperately wanted to return to politics. Keep faith at a minimum trust is good and well but can be broken over the smallest of greed. Bravery and strength is necessary for any great man. All of these characteristics will build a strong and amazing prince in the eyes of Niccolo Machiavelli.
After reading The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli I have really learned what it takes to become a prince and I learned what he went through in life. I learned so much back ground history on Niccolo that I never expected to learn this book is an awesome book. It’s very clear and to the point it’s easy to understand no hiccups while reading this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who would be interested. I wouldn’t have personal went and picked this book but I’m glad that I was told to read this book.
