Nationalism paper Nationalism was a movement in Europe that unified many countries that had been broken up during the congress of Vienna. Nationalism is having strong beliefs towards your country.
During this time people started to identify their commonalities such as similar language and ethnicity. During this time of nationalism movements Italy and Germany looked to unify their countries, but they needed help to get the control other countries had on them out. Italy looked to France and Germany looked to Prussia to help unify their country. Nationalism was a good force because it was unifying in the countries Germany and Italy. The congress of Vienna Established nine Italian states, thus Italy was not unified Giuseppe Mazzini started the nationalism movement in Italy. With his underground revolutionary group called young Italy he inspired the unification of Italy. Camillo Di Cavour became Prime Minister of The kingdom of Sardinia-piedmont. As Prime Minister he strengthened Sardina’s economy and won the support of many people Cavour allied with France to fight Austria in order to help unify Italy. As Italy went to war with Austria with their ally France, France made peace with Austria without Italy consent. Although these states united central Italy was still split up. To further the unification Cavour and Garibaldi joined forces and recruited the red shirts which helped revolutionise get rid of local governing. Although they deposed of local governing, Italy did not have Venetia. In order to get Venetia italy joined the war against Austria with Prussia, Since Prussia won Italy was granted Venetia.
