The Final Countdown The last week of the last year, three years in the making. It's the Final Countdown and I've chosen the song “Final Countdown” because it sums up my three years in middle school. I liked this song because it shows passion, hope, and the will to succeed. The three keys to success and the three keys that kept with me throughout my middle school years. My first reason for picking this song is because I think it shows a lot of passion and everyone needs passion at some point in their life. The lyrics “And things to be found” relates to passion because it gives the listener the sense that bigger and better things are yet to come. And that wherever they may go their passion will come with them. This quote can also
The live theatrical production I chose to see was 9 to 5 The Musical. The production was performed by Fayetteville Technical Community College’s very own Fine Arts Department. The musical is based on the film released by Fox in 1980. Collin Higgins adapted the film from the book 9 to 5 written by Patricia Resnick. It wasn’t until 2008 that the film was adapted to a theatrical production. The production was originally brought to broadway by Robert Greenbait and Dolly Parton wrote the lyrics and the music for the Musical. The run on broadway was very short but the production later toured in other countries around the around the world.
The Wiz is a musical/movie released in 1978 that was an adaptation of the popular film “Wizard of Oz”. It included several very popular stars of the time, which were Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell. The movie set place in New York City where the main character, Dorothy, suddenly is swept by a tornado in the middle of a snowstorm. She later then found herself lost in a city she had no clue about and curious as to how she could return home. After meeting 3 other characters during her journey that share similarities, they all embarked on a trip to OZ to fix each of their problems. Throughout the movie characters apply their own soundtrack through singing songs in harmony that compliment the mood of each scene.
Don’t pick a song just because you like it, it must have meaning. Your list must be typed and include the following information: Song title, artist, and a short three to five sentence explanation as to why the song represents you.
On a Wednesday night I saw Texas State Theatre and Dance Department's performance of A Chorus Line. The main plot of the musical entails the audition of 17 dancers for several Broadway roles on the chorus line. However, during their auditions the director Zach asks for personal stories of each dancer's life. Though the plot of this musical is seemingly simple in its twist on the traditional audition, it explores themes that reveal the human experience, the search for individuality, and the sense of self.
During the whole story the main Character Janie, has been Investigating love her whole life and she had dreams that she’s always wanted to chase but her grandmother’s teachings set her back. When she finally finds love with a man named tea-cake it changes her life and makes her see life in a new way. That’s why I chose these songs. Because They connect, to love and dream chasing. In my first song, “Dreams” by J.cole, we see the theme of love and finding that perfect girl in the lyrics of the song. In the song
“Now everybody dresses alike. That’s the problem with progress” (Bauer 53). That quote is in the book Hope was Here by Joan Bauer. It is explaining how you could always tell who the bad guys were versus who the good guys were in the olden days because the bad guys wore capes and all black. Now everyone dresses alike so it is harder to tell, but if you knew Hope Yancey you could tell she is one of the good ones. Her along with her aunt, Addie, travel around the country looking for places Addie could cook at, most of them being diners. Soon they end up in the small town of Mulhoney, Wisconsin filled with lots of cows, diners, and corruption going on. They had recently found a job at a diner with an owner suffering from cancer, names G.T. who
Dylan and Daniela are gleefully diving into their senior year at Westward High School. The two have been dating happily for 3 years and meet on quite unexpected terms. Dylan, the captain of the football team and a dreamy jock, seemly fell in love with Daniela, the nerdy but beautiful thespian. The couple, out of exceedingly low chances of meeting not only do just that but, fall in love. These two completely different teenagers just seem to have everything in common as well. Zach, star football captain and below average student can thoroughly understand Daniella’s struggles of getting into Julliard.
The song that I choose to do this assignment on is Fight the Power by Public Enemy. Fight the Power was written in 1989 and quickly became a street anthem for millions of youths. It reflects with issues dealing with both the Civil Rights Movement and to remind everyone that they too have Constitutional Rights. This particular song is about empowerment but also fighting the abuse of power that is given to the law enforcement agencies. It gave citizens of the U.S a more modern outlook on the many struggles that not only the African American community is up against but the other minority groups as well. The song’s message was eventually supposed to bring people together and make the world a better place, even though some teens saw it as a way
Patti Smith 's, Just Kids, embarks on her journey towards freedom and breaking away from any of her family tradition that she felt she may have had to follow as a child. It was the fifties, and at that time, the role of women was nothing short of performing female tasks. Smith recounts the moments in her childhood where she would feel resentment towards her mother, as she watched her perform female, motherly tasks, and noted her well-endowed female body (Smith 5). To Patti Smith, it all seemed against her nature. The heavy scent of perfume, the red slashes of lipstick, revolted her. She wanted to be different, to create her own self-image. Ironically enough, it was through her androgynous image, that Patti Smith was able to capture the attention
The song is interesting because reading the lyrics, listening to the song, and watching the music video all give different meanings about the song. Reading the lyrics suggests that the song is a depressing story about the inner turmoil the writer is feeling and how he is not sure what to do with his life. But after listening to this upbeat and happy song, it seems like it may not be as dreary as it seemed at first. After watching the music video the message can be reinterpreted to be about the internal conflicts of a soldier fighting in a war and he does not know what he is fighting for. The fact that the music completely changes how the lyrics are interpreted is interesting. Nate uses many literary techniques to make this song mysterious and open to interpretation depending on how it is experienced.
In the book Daydreams of Angels written by Heather O’Neill, the story “The Saddest Chorus Girl in the World” tells the tale of a young girl named Violet as she grows up. Violet leaves her controlling stepfather after her mother’s death and joins a chorus line, vowing to never to date a man like him. O’Neill uses flower and nature imagery in this short story to comment on the power dynamics between men and women in society, focusing on the role of women. She explores how women are seen as weak while men are strong and the idea that a woman’s life is meaningless if not accompanied by a man.
Throughout the song the tone changes from a disappointed and unsatisfied feeling until it progresses into a hopeful and maturing tone. This transformation of tone follows the story almost perfectly and allows the reader to feel a connection to the transformation of the protagonist. This transformation from “expecting the world” (line 1) to realising that some things must happen for others to come into motion “the sun must set to rise” (line 24) is especially impactful and emotional when paired with the lines “ This could be para-para-paradise, para-para-paradise” that are repeated to show her newly established happiness and maturity. Ultimately, this progression from disappointed
... been related to months and seasons maybe because the hidden message of the song is that love is a never-ending cycle (like the seasons). This would indicate that love will inevitably die, but be reborn again, perhaps in the form of someone else or with the same person. This then could lead to the theory that this song was written to be compatible with everything that is loved i.e. a new job, new friend etc and that it often deteriorates through familiarity. Such depth in a song compares to the depth of a poem in terms of the hidden meanings and imagery.
Line 3, where the listener wakes up and gets a gun, is also the start of a pattern throughout the song. This is the first time in the song that the title is incorporated into the lyrics. Hearing the title of the song places importance on the following line. Each time the title is repeated, a depressing line usually follows, for example, “All the love is gone” (line 12), “The world turned upside down” (line 25), “…everything you had was gone” (line 38) are all lines that follow the title when it is repeated in the lyrics. Each of these lines puts the listener in a sad place in his/her life. These lines make the reader imagine a person who has just gone through a very traumatic experience. The feeling of loss and turmoil are on the mind of the listener after waking up in the morning. The line “Got a blue moon in your eyes” also follows the title many times throughout the lyrics, which has already been established as an ominous look from the listener. Line 38 is when the structure if the lyrics go under a dramatic change. Up until this point the lyrics are separated into stanzas, but at line 38 the structure changes to prose. The change in structure goes from organized to a jumble of lines emphasizing the chaos that is going on for the listener. The lyrics here are the biggest indicator of the turmoil the listener is experiencing. Lyrics such as, “By half past ten your head was going ding-dong. Ringing like a bell from your head down to your toes” (line 39), “Last night you were flying but today you’re so low…” (Line 42), and “Don’t you wish you didn’t function,” (Line 46) all emphasize an internal struggle taking place within the listener. This prose concludes with the speaker telling the listener, “Well you do so make up your mind to go on, ‘cos when you woke up this morning everything you had was gone.” (Line 48). Here, after the jumble of chaos, the speaker is trying to convince the listener to
...hat I saw from the lyrics in the montage. To me, “Desert Rose” is meaningful and inspirational because I interpret it as a reminder that we as human beings, it is part of our nature to long for something that we think is unattainable and is motivation to work towards it and the lessons we learn along the way are valuable lessons of life. We mature and learn through our goals, disappointments, successes, failures, rewards, and mistakes. Love for family, significant other, friends, and or each other helps make the world a better place and we are happier with the ones we love. Happiness is hard to come by these days because we are constantly looking for ways to better ourselves or look for a more valuable object to please us. People always want what they cannot have. It is just part of our nature and this song is a beautiful, lyrical way of reminding us of that.
