Harry Potter is a story about an orphan child going to a school for wizards. The main characters in the story are Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Draco Malthoy. The story is aimed at children or young people. At the start of the sequence the lights go out. This creates am evil atmosphere and indicates that something is going wrong. The sound of the train stopping suddenly alerts the audience that something is going to happen. There is also a tense or creepy atmosphere created by the slow music. Different shot types are also used to make the audience’s feelings change. The long shot shows the train stranded in the middle of nowhere. This lonely and dark atmosphere shows the audience that the people on the train can’t be helped. The zoom in on the train gives the view a dementor would have, flying towards it. The bad weather and darkness also creates am evil and depressing atmosphere. First of all, diegetic sounds and ambient sound effects are integral in creating tension and apprehension in the film, as “ …sound plays a critical role in determining how audiences react to images.” (p.234) At the background of the opening shot the audience hears the distant roll of thunder; gradually its sound increases and reaches its maximum, causing fear of impending jeopardy. As the tension escalates, the volume of the sound rises, we hear the roaring of dancers’ drums, and its sound is intentionally exaggerated, the tempo of music speeds up as well as the dance of the indigenous performers of the ritual sacrifice to gods. The alteration of volume and tempo of the sound heightens suspense and makes the audience anticipate with anxiety the forthcoming shots.

Just to quickly run through the two previous books; Harry Potter is a wizard, who’s parents were killed by the worst dark wizard ever known. The reason why Harry Potter is still around, is because Lord Voldemort failed to kill Harry. His spell hit Harry, but then backfired on Voldemort taking all of his powers with him. Harry is so famous for two things. Withstanding the powers of Lord Voldemort, and, taking him back in to the underworld in hiding. In the first book, Harry receives a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He’s eventually allowed to go, and spends the next six months there learning magic, getting into trouble, and trying to solve mysteries of his past, and the school. In the second book, Harry goes back to his second year at Hogwarts, and gets into more trouble, figures out many astonishing mysteries and learns loads more magic. His best friends in the two books consist of Ron and Hermione (two of his fellow wizard students) and Hagrid the gamekeeper who was expelled from Hogwarts but allowed a job as the gamekeeper.
Sound also draws attention to specific scenes and can cue expectations of what will occur. The sound viewers hear first is that of thunder and rain. The external sound is both accessible to characters within the scene and the audience. Although the rain and thunder are unnoticeable viewers can presume that the weather is rainy outside which explains the minimal lighting coming through the windows. Lionel stomping up the stairs, the sound of jacks, and the chewing as the three young boys eat are all examples of diegetic sounds which appear natural. By using diegetic sound viewers perceive the story as more realistic because it places the audience within that scene. The use of the recorder and orchestra music is also important because it adds drama to the scene. When Susy picks up her book the loudness of the music increases which intensified the scene to make it appear more dramatic. As Susy opens the curtains again the music gets louder, the combination of music and camera distance in this shot hint that perhaps Susy saw something of importance through her

These novels according to some critics are harmless, adventurous, children's tales. Others choose to portray them as stories that inspire children to become involved in the occult and serious witchcraft. The Harry Potter novels chronicle the life of a young wizard whose wizard parents were killed by the evil Lord Voldermort. On his eleventh birthday he receives invitation to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Each of the five books represents a year of his life there (Walker). This essay will discuss whether the Harry Potter novels are a suitable read for children and why despite what some critics portray, Harry Potter can be a positive role model for youth.
The show starts out with long chords and dramatic pauses in the music, creating suspense and tension. Right away you are impressed by the musicians’ ability to convey drama and emotion. Eventually the corps comes together and a gigantic black tarp with the words “Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here” printed on it is pulled over them by the colorguard. This is a very effective tool that leaves no question where the show is headed. As the show progresses it transitions between songs with fast and slow tempos, generating variety and contrast that keeps the audience interested. The band utilizes both sharp and flowing forms, furthering the contrast in mood. My interpretation is that the difference in feeling among the movements symbolizes the back and forth between purgatory and Hell. This concept certainly makes for an engaging performance. Throughout the show the overall feeling is one of darkness and despair, filled with dissonance and minor chords, but at the very end, the band breaks out into Beethoven’s melodic “Ode to Joy,” symbolizing the ascent to Heaven. During this portion of the show, the colorguard utilizes gold colored flags and cloths to convey feelings of victory and joyfulness. The ending is a major contrast to the rest of the show, which is a nice change and feels fresh and exciting. It also provides some literal resolution to the overall minor feel of
The producer was aiming to create mystery and fear. The dark of the night and the description of the house as feeling dead in the protagonist’s narration sets a suspenseful scene filled with fear and tension. The young girl is followed by the camera as she explores the mansion. When entering the room suspected to be that of her aunts the camera leaves her side to pan around the room. The darkness doesn’t reveal everything but one becomes aware of a search. The revelation of little secrets leaves the viewer with many questions. The room is familiar to the protagonist as she finds items symbolic to her and familiar photographs. This familiarity however does not retract from suspicions that something sinister has been hidden. The producer has successfully captivated the viewer. The protagonist is being followed throughout the scene and has thus allowed for the viewer to bond with them. They are engaging with the audience through narration and have in return enticed the viewer to follow them along their journey. One feels nervous for the young girl however through tension in the scene one does not want them to discontinue the journey as too many questions have been left unanswered. What is it that makes this series so wildly famous? What is it about the boy who lived that makes frenzied readers flock to their local bookstore at midnight on the day of the release to buy the latest installment? How is a story set in a world that doesn’t exist about wizards, witches, magic, and mystical creatures so popular? The series has been able to earn its spot on the New York Times Bestseller list and has granted author J.K. Rowling multiple awards because it is relatable. It is not the setting or the events in the plot of the story that we relate to. We relate to what Harry, his friends, mentors, teachers, caretakers, and even enemies feel. Harry is in a lot of ways exactly like us. He represents some of the good characteristics that all of us have as well as the bad. The series as a whole, is about one thing that is stressed over and over again in the novels, love. The Harry Potter series is one of the most read sequences of novels because the central theme is love and self-sacrifice, and readers are looking for a novel that shows them just that.
