From politics to weather, anyone who works for news media knows that they have to be unbiased on the information they report to millions of Americans. As citizens with little free time,we have no choice but to trust what information is given in newspapers, radios and televisions. However, only 4 out of every 10 Americans say they truly believe what their news channel televise, a historical low in America. News channels, especially in the big corporations, are being corrupted with prejudice information, imbalance of news coverage, and distorted stories. Media bias is an obvious problem in current-day America; one of the issues is the news coverage on different stories. News broadcasters focus on the little issues (i.e. celebrity gossip, court cases, basic “drama” stories) rather than significant topics that need to be given the same, if not, more attention by watchers …show more content…

Usually, news corporations favor this imbalance in news and cater to the majority of its viewers for money and popularity. Even if news channels do tend to center their coverage on the supposed “important” stories of worldwide problems, the point of view of the reporter will affect what is being told. A big example are protests of equality, spanning from the Baltimore protests on police brutality to gay rights; what words are usually used to describe the tone of the situations and the people participating in them? Compare it to the destruction made by college kids after a hard loss of their football team, and see the obvious change of mood from one story to the other.
