There are a lot of ethical issues concerning eating meat and raising animals for the consumption of it. Is becoming a vegetarian one option to stop animal cruelty? All types of animals are said to be living, thinking and feeling beings. Some people even domesticate animals to keep them as pets. In order to obtain the meat; animals have to go through extreme pain and conditions. There is some code of ethics that has to be followed when raising animals for food but how do we know those ethics are being followed. Eating meat is part of the daily life of billions of people. Everyday thousands of animals are killed for the production of meat. Eating meat is like a cultural norm which is thought to us since growing up. On the other hand, having a vegetarian lifestyle could have huge benefits to animals, to the environment, and our health. …show more content…

Many people don’t think where this meat came from. All we know is that meat is delectable and we can’t imagine ourselves without it in our diet. Does animal cruelty really exist in factory farming? I do think animals have to go through a long process of extreme pain and conditions. We don’t know if these factory farms follow the code of ethics such as a healthy, safe, comfortable and peaceful life for these animals. We just know that at the end they will be butchered for the production of meat. As Jay Withgott and Matthew Laposata said “People ascribe value to things in two main ways. One way is to value something for the pragmatic benefits it brings us if we put it to use.” (480) I will definitely agree with them because people do factory farming for their benefit of doing business and the benefit for the people that eat
