Shutter Island From Novel to Film Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island is a brilliant movie which is adapted from the equally brilliant novel by Dennis Lehane. After experiencing an emotional connection to the book, Scorsese set to work on creating this masterpiece starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Upon its release, Shutter Island had every range of reaction; it completely split both critics and fans. Scorsese’s representation of Teddy Daniels (the main character), and Dr. Cawley are very thorough and only the slightest bit liberal with hardly anything missing or added. The overall tone or mood of the film is fairly different than the feelings I got while reading the book.

In this film, the choice you are manipulated to think in life is a complete illusion as the path of what you are has already been fixed. The true meaning of this is that fate is something that you have no control over, ultimately your destiny. A clear example which stood out was the ‘pill scene’ that occurred during the first half and hour of this film having great significance. The movie twilight was recently adapted from being a novel to a film in the year 2005 under the same title with the original idea from Stephanie Meyer. Through the 17 year old girl’s narration, the movie espouses a love story about a forbidden love (Blasingame et al. 50). The forbidden love is between the two protagonists, Edward and Bella, where their relationship depicts varied interpersonal characteristics.

The movie I am going to compare is a fictional movie, which is after Earth directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
