Trust and corruption - two characteristics that rest on opposite sides of the spectrum. One can bring people closer together, the other will certainly drive those same people apart. Shakespeare’s Macbeth displays examples of trust and corruption and shows how what affected us four hundred years ago, still happens today.

Corruption is something that is motivated by greed and deception. It’s a very sinister personality that seeks to control and destroy people’s live. Most people don’t want to associate with a corrupt person.

In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Macbeth is told by the three Witches, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! / All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! / All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!” (1.3.53). Once Macbeth receives this information, it drives him to take matters into his own hands and speed up the process. He no longer lets fate decide what happens and murders Duncan (the current king), with the assistance of Lady Macbeth. After all, being right next to the Thane of Cawdor and Glamis isn’t good enough for her. She had to be the most powerful person under King Macbeth.

By the midpoint of the play, Macbeth is killing people because corruption has blinded him from making reasonable decisions. He’s doing whatever it takes to keep the crown. We saw the same type of behavior as Adolf Hitler rose to power.

Both Hitler and Macbeth had military service as a part of their respective backgrounds. As a young man, Hitler had a strong desire to prove his loyalty to Germany.
