In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, the author wants us to grasp the way people lived in the 1920’s where their life was full of people who possessed the most stunning cars, elegant wardrobes and dream homes. Similar from today’s society, money is the center of many people’s lives. Believing that money and power is the most powerful thing to have is when people start to act selfish and cruel. According to the book and films there were many examples of infidelity, love, and trust towards couples and friends that struggle to find the right person. Scott Fitzgerald himself. Luhrmann did an accurate research on the imagery of New York in the 1920s. He wanted to unlock a way to make the audience feel what it was like to read Fitzgerald’s novel and to be in New York in the 1920s. New York City was flushed with money and booze. Although, it was the time of prohibition where one-day people were railing about alcohol and the next day demanding it on their table. Fitzgerald and Luhrmann agreed that something was morally corrupted in society and one day everything will be crashing down. It was relevant that Gatsby’s story was brought to the eyes of the audience again because no matter if it was published in the 1920s, we still see corruption in today’s society (Life). In that scene I mentioned before where Nick and Tom are in the Myrtle’s apartment, you can see how the camera focuses on Nick and through every window looking into everyone’s inexhaustible variety of life in New York. You can see a mother tucking in his child, a man playing an instrument, and an African American women stripping to a white man. You can see examples on how people lived in the 1920s but you can also see and feel that there is no difference than how people live
