Loyalty allows people to make sacrifices in order to protect the ones that are deat to them. In the book The Chrysalids written by John Wyndham, there are individuals willing to die for one another just to keep each other safe from the society trying to hunt them down. Being connected to an individual or a group--like the telepaths in The Chrysalids--makes it easier for one to risk their lives in order to keep the ones they love. In the book, deviants are considered as evildoers who will taint God’s image, the first time that all the telepaths had gathered became a symbol of newfound family. They agreed to avoid meeting too much in public due to the danger that could come of it, they wanted to keep each other out of harm's way and gave up seeing each other in person, not that they needed to in order to communicate. Anne’s marriage was based on lies and she had not cared because she believed that she could be someone who could turn normal person. She decided to risk the others in order to be happy and became a liability to the rest of the telepath group. She chose to expose the rest of them before she committed suicide due to the thought of them being behind Alan's murder. When Sally and Katherine were captured, David and the others tried to flee. The group thought of the greater good and decided that they’d eventually get them back. A sacrifice had been made to save the rest of the group, this shows what people are willing to do when driven in a tough situation. Sacrificing one to save the rest is a brave move, there can be regrets but it drives the rest of the group closer together. Becoming a stronger individual to protect others is common but it could also turn one into a rash and reckless
