William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies is about a group of boys who get trap on an island during World War Two and they have to adapt to survive till they are rescued. One must take control another must reinforce control and one must define. The boys start out civilized but then become savages and there is no right or wrong. The reasons for the decay of civilization and failure of society in the Lord of the Flies is the missing order on the island, the animal instinct that take over the boys, and the fact of they don’t know what they are doing and to young to under stand how to keep their civilized behaviour in check.

Humans and animals have three basic needs that we have to have, food and water, shelter and protection. Some humans act like animals to achieve these three needs and become savages. This is shown in Lord of the Flies by Jack and his group when they steal Piggy’s glass to create fire also they kill a pig in a horrible manner and using rocks formation as shelter and not building some kind of shelter. This is the sign of animalistic behavior. When they kill this one pig the boys start chatting some horrible things “Robert stabilized the thing in a phrase which was received uproariously. Right up her ass!” (8,149). It was Jack who stuck the spear up the pigs butt also the pig was female. How they kill the pig is brutal manner by shoving sticks into the pig’s butt, this is simulating rape and also a way of showing the boys becoming savages treating an animal with disrespect is a cruel thing to do especially not killing it in a humane way. All the boys go on a hunting trip except Simon, as Simon is like a Christ character in the novel. As the boys are hunting they start to go crazy as the animal inside of them is released and this becomes a very serious time in the novel as this leads to Simons death, because the boys see Simon crawl out of the bushes after he talks to the beast during a seizure as the boys are up roaring saying
