Seven years ago, when I lived in Oklahoma, It started on a beautiful day in early May. Then that's when something bad happened. After I had come back from my best friend Kesha and Rosie's house I went into my living room and noticed that the TV was on and had an emergency news flash saying that there will be a massive ¨EF5 tornado¨ (Stewart) will be hitting my area. There will also be over 200 mile hour winds. (Stewart) I immediately called Kesha who had experienced an EF3 tornado. But she didńt answer. So instead I called Lily. ¨Did you hear about the tornado! The news person said that it will come down our road and cross down 20th street!¨ (Stewart) No but I did get a new puppy, She responded. Can you give the phone to Kesha? Sure!¨ Then right after she had said that the tornado siren went off. I got a jump scare. …show more content…

She came running down the stairs of my house looking frightened. I immediately grabbed her and ran down to the cellar of my house. ¨Hello? I heard coming from the phone. So I grabbed the it. The tornado is hitting me right now! Yeah i'm in the shelter that I have and Lily is with me too. Well, I changed my mind on talking with you. I guess I'll talk to you later. Bye!¨ It wasn't too long before the tornado ripped through. I opened the old wooden cellar door. Holding my cat in my hands. Luckily, the tornado did not do anything in my house. I called my mom, but she didńt answer. I didn't know why. But what I did know is that the sky was a cold, dark grey mixed with some red. My phone turned on with an alert noise on it. It said that the tornado was last spotted in a Walmart parking lot. I grabbed Bella and started walking to my house. I felt so thankful that

    Most of the destructions from the events of August 29th 2005, when Katrina Hit the City Of New Orleans, were not only caused by the storm itself; but also, by failure of the engineering of the levee system protecting the entire infrastructure of the city. The years of poor decision making and avoidance of the levee system led to one of the most catastrophic events in the history of the United States. Throughout our research, we have identified three key players in charge of the levee system design, construction and maintenance. These three organizations are the Unites States Corps of Engineers, the New Orleans Levee District and the Louisiana Department of Transportation. The consequences of the hurricane showed the organizations negligence in the design, construction and maintenance of the protective walls. Later independent sresearch showed that more than 50 levees and food walls failed during the passage of the hurricane. This failure caused the flooding of most of New Orleans and all of ST. Bernard Parish. The Unites States Corps of Engineers had been in charge of the of the levee system and flood walls construction since the 1936 flood act. According to the law, the Louisiana Department of Transportation is in charge to inspect the overall design and engineering practices implemented in the construction of the system. Once the levee systems were finished, they were handed over to the New Orleans Levee District for regular maintenance and periodically inspections. The uncoordinated actions of these three agencies resulted in the complete failure of a system that was supposed to protect the people of New Orleans. The U.S. government did not provide sufficient services; thus, illustrating how the affected communities’ mental health needs weren’t being met and continue to not be met today. The survivors of Hurricane Katrina did not receive sufficient mental health services due to lack of government action and lack of programs with the capacity to assist large numbers of people which resulted in the individuals and communities affected to endure homelessness, poverty, and mental health issues even till this day.

    A tornado struck Joplin, Missouri on May 22, 2011 at around 5:40 pm. With a population around 50,559, it killed 161 people and injured approximately 1,100 people. The cost was an estimated $2.8 billion in damage. The American taxpayers had to give about $500 million in recovery money. This made it the deadliest tornado since 1950, which was when modern recordkeeping began. Since it was an EF5 tornado, it destroyed everything in its path.
