Although justice is thought to bring a sense of security and improve the quality of life, it is often found doing the opposite. Justice can twisted, manipulated, and corrupted throughout time. This is partly because many officials don't have the proper training to enforce the law. Since justice can be influenced by outside sources so easily, there are many opportunities for injustice; such as unbalancement of punishments, corruption, and false accusation. Even though stealing is a crime, it should not be worth four years in prison. This is an example of how unbalanced punishments were in France. The unbalancement of punishments between different crimes caused problems within the justice system. A common thief often endured the same punishment as a murder. Many members of the Patron Monette had similar sentences as those with lesser crimes. More times than not, the members were broken out of prison due to corruption of the justice system so non violent related criminals often had it worse than murders. For instance, the church and even many charity based organizations have been found to be corrupt. With this being said, it is no surprise that the French Justice system became corrupt. In the book Les Miserables, the Patron Monette escaped from prison with help from the inside. This complication will affect any Justice System by a considerable amount. Recently, a Mexican drug lord known as El Chapo escaped from a maximum security prison using inside sources. He has ties with many Mexican politics and uses them to avoid being caught or stay in capture. Because of his many alliances in the Mexican Government, El Chapo is going threw a lengthy process of being extradited to the U.S. so his chance of escaping is diminished.
