"We still have known thee for a holy man.” This excerpt stated by the Prince in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare tells us how the “holy man” Friar Laurence is to blame for the lovers death. Friar Laurence’s irresponsible actions and unclear thinking all lead to Romeo and Juliet’s Death. Friar Laurence is to be blamed for their deaths because he marries them rashly, gives Juliet the potion, and then leaves Juliet alone to commit suicide.
Friar Laurence’s decision to marry Romeo and Juliet without consideration and does it rashly is what leads to the tragedy in the play. Friar Laurence explains, “So soon forsaken? Young men's love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.” Since Romeo rapidly forgets Rosaline, Friar Laurence feels skeptical about Romeo’s love for Juliet, and he believes it is because of her beauty due to them just having met. He then states, “But come, young waverer, come, go with me, in one respect I'll thy assistant be; for this alliance may so happy prove, to turn your households' rancour
In Capulet’s tomb as the guard’s approach Friar Laurence anxiously says, “Stay not to question, for the watch is coming. Come, go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay.” With Romeo’s death Friar Laurence tells Juliet they need to leave and he does not want to stay with the guards approaching. She responds to him, “Go, get thee hence, for I will not away.” Juliet is heartbroken of Romeo’s death and wishes to stay while the friar is scared he will be caught and decides to leave then this allows Juliet to kill herself. Friar Laurence’s action to leave Juliet alone were because he was afraid to get caught and face the consequences of all of the things he has done to the lovers. With his disappearance Juliet is given an opportunity to end her life; therefore, the Friar can be blamed for the two lover’s
