Langston Hughes traveled a long way from when he was a 13 year old in Lincoln,Illinois to being one of the famous writers of the Harlem Renaissance. Langston Hughes made a big impact during the Harlem Renaissance working as a playwright and a poet with some of his famous work such as “The Weary Blues” and “The Negro Speaks of Rivers”. Langston Hughes was one of the black emerging writers during his time along with Claude Mckay and Zora Neale Hurston. Langston was important because his poems reflected his environment in New York and other people could relate to him while reading his poems. He was most recognized during the Harlem Renaissance because of his contribution to the artistic movements such as jazz music. It wasn’t until after Langston died that his poetry got used in stage plays and lessons in schools.
Overall Langston Hughes was a very influential man during the Harlem Renaissance and still influences many poets till this day. From coming from Lincoln,Illinois and writing his first poem to going to New York City and publishing famous books and plays, many would say Langston came a long way in his lifetime. Some of Langston's most famous works include “The Negro Speaks of Rivers” and “Weary Blues”. Langston impacted the 1920’s and still impacts us now.
