Famous American author Langston Hughes, known for his style of jazz poetry, grew up during racial injustice where he experienced pain and never understood the reasoning of segregation but endured it all through the art of writing. In the poems, I, Too and Theme for English B, Hughes touches on racial separation in America and the fact that African-Americans were not even worthy of being considered “American”, he also describes basic similarities between blacks and whites and the idea that both races are indeed apart of each other and can learn from one another despite the obvious difference. His emotions were all over the place but it was his biggest inspiration to write. Hughes also loved Harlem, and it was where he received some of his inspiration and even wrote about Harlem itself. What makes Hughes so different from the rest is his unique style of Jazz Poetry. “He is best known for his poetry with reflected rhythms of jazz and blues music”(Bailey).
