“The story of an hour” by Kate Chopin is filled with much unexpected between expectations of what the readers would expect to happen. The reaction that Mrs. Mallard makes the total opposite of how a woman that is truly in love with her husband would behave. The atmosphere is different from when someone dies which is usually dark but in the short story “the story of an hour” the atmosphere is full hope and brightness. This is why I strongly believe that Mrs. Mallard was not actually in love with Mr. Mallard.

In the story of an hour, it is thoroughly different from the average story talking about a love one's death. Normally when a loved one dies the setting is dark and dreary setting tone is very sad it makes the reader fields like life ends but in the book the more bright and colorful. The author's choice of words conveys a sense of hope and how they are used the way she describes the feeling of freedom “creeping out of the reaching towards her through sounds the scents the color that filled the air.” …show more content…

Usually, there is a sense of disbelief when someone in your family who you love dies. I can contest to this from personal experience. When my father suddenly died there was moment almost like the world stop in that moment you are trying your best to come to grips with the fact that the person you love is gone and that they probably never return. She does not have this moment she immediately accepts the fact that her husband has died. The narrator says this herself “She did not hear the story as many women have heard the same with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance.” It was almost as if she was ready for him to die at any moment. She did not exhibit any behaviors that a grieving woman would. There was a little sadness which lasted for the shortest period. She was not angry she was not sad she felt no guilt no fear nor did she have any other symptoms that a grieving woman would
